I recently won an auction for a Keihan 2 into 2 exhaust system to fit an R80GS.

The vendor (Bell266) has completed 159 txtns thru Ebay, with 100% feedback. He is based in Blandford, Dorset.

I have paid via Ebays paypal link to the account which was attached to Bell266’s account.

For reasons that aren’t clear to me, this was directed to a Paypal account totally unconnected to the Ebay vendor.

It appears that I will now need to send further funds to Bell266, but in this instance, whilst it will be thru paypal, it won’t be thru ebay – that auction now shows that I have paid. This takes the settlement outside of normal ebay terms.

Both ebay & paypal have been frustrating to deal with. I have had no explanation as to why the vendors Ebay account & the paypal account holders details have been linked.

Paypal will not return the funds. The account to which the funds were credited remains untouched, & the person concerned is not responding to emails. Paypal tells me I’ll get the funds back 30 days after I initially settled, if the funds remain unclaimed. They are less forthcoming on what happens if the funds are withdrawn, or otherwise used.

Ebay has not been able to confirm any details for Bell266, including that the person messaging me is the account holder, despite repeated requests. I would like to be sure that I am dealing with a real person, & that the person I am messaging is genuine.

Because I am NZ based, the cost of freight is likely to double the initial purchase price. I was originally to arrange freight from here. Bell266 has now offered to do this for me.

Please don't think I am impugning on Bell266 integrity. I am sure he is a standup guy. But Ebays refusal to confirm even that details supplied to me match their account is unsettling, & the paypal issue has me a little spooked.

Bell266 was selling a number of other R80GS items thru ebay, with auctions ending at a similar time, & it occurs to me that others may have dealt with him in the past, or know him (he may even be a member), or may be experiencing similar issues. HELP....Any (sound & non slanderous) advice will be gratefully received

Perhaps his Ebay/PP account has been hacked and diverted the funds to another source (dodgy)

Sounds like it has happened

I have purchased many items on ebay and alot of the paypal adys have had nothing to do with the sellers name. It could be a partners, reletives, freinds account. The paypal addy associated with my eblag account has nothing to do with my ebay name :blagblah even if you have to spend £100 to get it sent its still a good price :thumb2 you should have checked out all the delivery details etc before you handed the ££ over concidering your location :blagblah hope it all gos good for you :beerjug:

Sorry to be the one to say this but it sounds like you have been had.
The seller has had his auction hacked and had the paypal address changed. This can happen it has happened to me.
But he isn't doing anything about it?

Tell the buyer you have a friend off this site lives near him and is going to pick it up. Ask for an address and a postcode and a good day to collect it and if you never hear from him again you have been had.

Tell ebay the buyer is refusing to post the exhaust. Ebay will contact him and ask what is going on. If he says he was never paid ebay will see he was and get your money back. Leave negative feedback.

Or
If you go to the PayPal site you can pay for an ebay auction item and put in an email address.

I would advise against paying for it again.

I have had an e-mail discussion with Bell266 re the 'other' Paypal account. He claims not to know that person. I am inclined to believe him on that. But I was actually happier before he offered to arrange freight, in that I would potentially get an address.

As I noted above, I am frustrated that Ebay & Paypal seem unwilling to act or verify the vendors details. So much for their disputes resolution.

I was prepared to walk away from it (but dispute the paypal payment) until I have had further contact tonight via Ebay messaging.

Anyone live nr Blandford, Dorset that would be prepare to check this out?

Postscript: I have now been able to obtain an address & ph no using other search metheods (but this may be old) - so may be able to ph for verification. Isn't the internet wonderful at times...:thumb

I'd still be interested if anyone else has dealt with Bell266

i live a few miles away and might be able to do something, but what did you have in mind?

Hi Cookie. Thank you very much for the offer.

I am probably all good now that I have found a name, address, & ph no (& I've just checked in the phone book - looks current).

I'll likely call him & have a discussion about what's been going on. That will make me feel much better, in that I will know I'm dealing with a real person, not a hacker / scammer.

When you pay with paypal through ebay one of the emails either from pp or ebay (can't remember which) will have all the details of the seller, email, address etc.

That is when I realised that there may be an issue. The email address & name didn't match the person I had corresponded with pre the auction.. There was no address given

Bell266 hes been registered from 11 sept 03 no neg feedbacks acording to the profile and sold some clasic bike bits ( might be legit)

did you type the payment email addy in or did you use the ebay pay now link or was it from a pay now email

What are you paying PayPal with? If it's a credit card or visa debt and PayPal doesn't play ball then claim it back on your card. PayPal won't like you doing it but if they fail to protect you its their own fault.

I think Bell266 is legit. The issue was really making sure that I was actually dealing wth him, & not someone else.

Link from directly from the auction on ebay.

Yes, Credit Card. That is a remedy that I can use (and am aware of - I'm a Banker). I have tried to get Paypal to remedy things before I go down that avenue.

Hi Guys, just a quick update. I have touched base with Bell266, & he has been good to deal with, so that side of things is back on track.

Both Ebay & Paypal have not covered themselves in glory IMHO. Both have not been there for either Bell266 or myself when they really needed to step up. I am waiting for the 30 days to get my money back from the first incorrect settlement. So far the funds are still in the incorrect a/c.
