I could do with some help in diagnosing what's happened with my bike.
I have a 58 plate 1200GS that I bought 2nd hand from the dealer this March. Since then, I've put around 1,500 miles on it.
This morning I went to start it up. The engine turned over but didn't fire up. So I opened the throtte and it turned over and eventually it caught and started. It ran for a couple of seconds and then died. The same happened again.
By that stage, I though that this isn't good and it was time to call for help. Having had the FPC problem on my 05 bike a couple of years ago, I thought it was something similar. I called the BMW Assist people and the local dealer to warn them that it was coming in.
When the recovery guy came, I started the bike up for him. Again it needed a big twist of the throttle to get it to fire, but then the engine remained on and didn't cut out. Typical I thought! But he wasn't happy with it being an intermittent issue and took it anyway.
I also mentioned something odd that happened yesterday. We've had some strong winds here recently and I was riding into a headwind when on three occasions, the bike slowed suddenly and then went back up to speed. I thought it must have been some strong gusts, but it did also feel like fuelling issue. Plus the tank level was low and the computer was indicating less than 30 miles range. In any case, the rest of that trip was OK as was the return journey and I filled up as soon as I could. Nothing untoward happened until this morning.
One other point that might be relevant is that I have begun to notice an odd surging when I've been yanking hard on the throttle for overtakes etc. Almost like the clutch is slipping. I was going to see if I could find some info on it before contacting the dealer to see if it was an issue.
Any thoughts?
I should hear from the dealer soon. Hope it is an easy one to fix as I was planning to use the bike for a weekend away.
