engine oil - mineral or synthetic

I'm diverting the funds to a once in a lifetime camper van purchase. I will certainly return to a 12 GS in the next twelve to fifteen months (when my savings have recovered) but whether it's a hex or a watercooled remains to be seen!
I wish you luck with that one... camper van WTF I hope its got a big happy sun on each of the front doors and a load of hash hidden somewhere safe inside... camper van sheesh! If its a Vdub make sure you check the oil regularly I know someone who did not and nearly ended up with a load of alloy washers :D

My current van is a 22 year old VW T25 (misnamed the T3) and my car is 14 years old. (My r100r is also 22 years old and my C1 is 10 years old). At age 62 I can't cope with the maintenance burden of the old vehicles so we are losing the car and the van and buying a t5 (VW) that will do both roles.

It's made easier by how successfully the C1 commutes as it keeps the van away from the stupidly short local runs

One van, one big bike and one c1. That's the plan which we have been working towards for several years. Of course it does require the r100r and the c1 to not break down at the same time. Fat chance :nenau

Thanks for that - it would appear then that he posts authoritatively, and reflects BMW latest policy. Be interesting to see if all dealerships follow suit. But then how would I ever find that out and does it really matter? Therefore strike that, it's not interesting at all.:thumb

Not another middle aged professional gent checking out the surf on "magic seaweed" when he should be working, so that he can clutter up the narrow lanes of North Devon in his Vee Dubya & live the dream come the weekend?
These pillocks can be spotted from Croyde beach, bobbing around on their body boards BUT never actually attempting to stand up or catch a wave.
Once they are nice & cold they can be seen in the surf shops trying on clothing best suited to a 19 year old, usually with O'neil, Quicksilver or Rip Curl emblazened on it. :comfort

One life duuude ... live it!

Nope, don't surf and if I did it would be a T1 (splittie) or a T2 (bay) not a T5 :blast

Biking and vans do rather conflict - if I have time to spare and some money in me trews, normal bikers would load up the Bike and go but when there's a camper around and a wife who won't go on the bike the van usually gets it. I'm not so selfish that I can ignore her needs.

There are certain times when the bike wins. I can always guarantee a ride by ensuring that all my commuting and essential travelling is done on two wheels - the only time I use a car is if Jan is with me. Also the first Sunday of the month is when my motorcycle club meets (also that is the day of the Goodwood Breakfast Club) so that is a secure day for me. Also any BMW dealer launches (roll on March 1st) are deemed sacred.

Life is one big compromise for me :comfort

It doesn't seem to matter what oil you use within reason (except the £5/lt shite, only useful for engines that burn or drip all their oil out) as long as it's changed regularly and kept topped up.

I just overfilled my GS engine oil.

How do I clean my oil drain tray so I can later reuse the extra oil. :friday
