Engine Rattle - Cam Chain Tensioner?

Re R1150GS -
I have read that the noise from the L.H. cylinder at idle and up to 2000 rpm when the engine is hot is caused by cam chain slap. Seems like there's a lot of know-how in the US on changing this part.
What about UK or Ireland? Am I alone in being fed up listening to the banging?
Anyone locally here with experience on the success or otherwise of changing the tensioner for a new type?

Thanks for links, the subject is well covered in the photo diary for sure.

What I really want to know is if anyone this side of pond has bothered their arse to change the tensioner plunger and if they have, was the result worth it?

If you'd have read the link s fully, you'd have realised that I did it last December. Mine was very loud at tickover with a slapping/booming noise. Fitting the uprated tensioner to the l/h side only cured it. Bike was considerably quieter as soon as I fired it up. The only other change I'd made was changing the oil.

Well worth the money IMO. At the time, the UK cost was about £128, I bought mine in Germany for £104 but there was a price increase shortly afterwards, not sure if the price rise affected UK prices also?

The new part has the same order number as the old. The internal spring is 30+% stiffer & the oil drain hole is considerably smaller.

Thanks for telling me not to skim what I read! You are right!

OK, you fitted a new one with stronger spring - I think I'm clear.

However, the guy in the States fitted one with no spring, or so it seems.

Have I got this arseways?

Please clarify.

(I like the stronger spring more, the one without a bleed hole for the oil must be prone to sticking when the captive oil burns a bit).

Old part: spring is visible & removable.

New part: spring is enclosed within sliding mechanism.

Fooled me the first time I saw the photos.

Feckin' photo say "no spring" so it was easy to be fooled by that!
