Hi,

Last week I stopped at a dealer which is not my regular one, to get a replacement bulb. Very friendly guy fits it for me, goes round the bike, checks some stuff here and there and tells me my engine rattles because of valve clearance not correct.

So friday night I go for my first valve clearance session (cold engine). Took me ages but I finally managed to get it right. Did the synchronisation of the throttle bodies as well (hot engine).

Now the engine runs smoothly when cold. You hardly hear it (could be my ears as well). The warm engine however still rattles (ticks) on the LHS. A bit the sound of an old VW beetle. RHS sounds ok.

Any ideas? Was my valve clearance exercise not presise enough?

Tnx for your feedback

Cheers

Most likely a bit of camchain rattle.

Also

Check all your exhaust clamps and stud nuts for tightness.

Check all your air inlet tube clamps are tight.

Did you do the rocker-shaft end-float at the same time? If not, that's where the noise is likely to be coming from. It makes more noise than the tappets.

Treat your bike to a nice oil change, go and enjoy , stop listening for rattles, and if it aint broke leave it alone.
It's most likely ok..... lets be honest if the guy had'nt said it was rattling you would'nt be worrying.
