Hi there,

Wonder if anyone can advise me. I have a 2013 R1200GS LC - it's basically new to me I bought it from a dealer 3 months ago.

Went to take advantage of the sunshine in Aberdeen (a rare occurrence) and the bike is running at about 3000 revs on startup and the Amber Warning light is on along with the engine light on the dash. Additionally twisting the throttle makes no difference at all - it is stuck at about the 3000 revs.

BMW Assist are coming out tomorrow morning and my guess is they'll end up taking it to the local Motorrad service department. This is not the place I bought the bike and I'm not sure if they are any good.(John Clark in Aberdeen)

Any advice would be welcome as just now I'm simply p***ed off that my 'new' bike isn't working.

I'm no expert, but have you done anything to it since you last rode it that may have knocked a cable of sensor?

I'm sure an expert will be along soon

Thanks but the bike has just sat for 4 days since I last ride it and there was no problem then.

How often do you use it - your description seems to point not much = fukc all.
How many miles have YOU done on it?
If youv'e done little mileage since then it sounds like a limp home mode has kicked in due to low battery crank voltage which fails to complete system checks? or creates other unfathomable errors.

Probably battery related or user error;).

Seeing as the bike will be collected under warranty, let them diagnose/fix it. Then, instead of bitching and moaning about it before diagnosis, let us know what they found, then moan. capish?:D

I ride 3/4 times a week. I've done about 1500 miles since I got it. So a little more than FA.

I got home fine on Wednesday (ie no limp mode) and I had a new battery fitted when I first got the bike as it wasn't working properly.

I will let you know what the outcome is seeing as you asked so nicely - I just wondered if someone here knew what I could expect to hear and whether there was an obvious simple fix to something like this as I am new to BMW's.

Do you know you come across as a right oafish twat !

I think the OP just wanted to know if anyone had a similar problem that may help him resolve it so that he coukd ride the bike today. I thought the idea of these forums was to help other riders.......?

Sorry, not able to help. Appreciate it must be frustrating - hope it gets sorted sharpish.

And don't let knobby comments wind you up. Especially when the spelling is dodgy, capisce :thumb

Sounds like the OP is basically asking for help to see if this is a common or even a known fault on this model (better to have some idea of what may be wrong ) , it probably is sensor or battery related but I spoke at length last year to a Dutch rider who had ended up with a new wiring loom on his 2013 r1200gs wc because of running problems, so until the bike has been plugged in to the diagnostics there is little that can be done

However, typical of this forum some ................. pops up and suggests 'user error' , how the f*@k can anyone jump to that conclusion ?

Cus there are quite a few knobs here, sadly.

Saddest thing of all is most of em would be decent people in reality but they get tapping on those keys and suddenly they are fkn Iron man.

I'm sure if the OP asked the question in a pub or in the street he'd get a very reasonable and polite answer.

Sorry but I can't help with the original question

Good luck

OP states that it had "battery issues" prior to or just after he purchased the bike (new battery fitted by the dealer) so if it is another battery related problem, then it could indeed be more serious if the new battery had gone flat without good reason :nenau

Hopefully once the dealer has sorted it the OP will be back to let us all know what the problem was :D

Check the block connecter from the throttle, part way down the right handle bar, bad connection on mine caused the same thing in Morocco. The block was pulling apart slightly when bike was on full lock. Happened a few times, ended up removing all the cable ties holding the wire in place and managed to gain about 1/2" more cable from under tank. Fastened everything back in place and never had a problem since
