ESA adjusts itself

When I push my R1200GS 2008 backwards when parking the bike whilst sitting on it and having the engine running the ESA adjusts itself and goes into different settings, it isn't too much of a problem but I have found myself riding the bike in off road settings two up without realising it had adjusted. Has anyone had this happen on their bikes and is it related to problem I haven't come across yet?

Not heard of that one before, sounds like a loose wire or something, maybe your switchgear on the handlebars playing up or the respective wiring ?

I have a GS911 and I'm just up the road in Fareham if you need a diagnostic although I don't remember seeing any ESA stuff in the GS911 menus.

I've never had that myself and I always push the bike backwards out of the garage engine running. Sorry, I have no ideas where you would start with that one - maybe switchgear or something electrical in the wiring to and from the ESA

The latest GS911 software does show ESA fault codes.

Mine did that I thought... Till I realised on full left lock the ESA switch was pressing against the BMW tankbag. Can't bitch to them though as the bars are on 40mm Wunderlich risers.

It's unlikely to be the shock it's just dumb motors that do as asked. The settings are random making electronics also unlikely so check out the switches

Don't let the guys from the 1150 section see this... They'll be all over it like a bad case of piles... which incidently, they all suffer from.

Had the same problem me'self before I worked out what it was.. glad you sorted it..

I did wonder if you could be accidentally pressing the switch, then thought it might be a daft suggestion.

At least we now know why BWM put in a 5 seconds delay on the ESA preload.
