I've just returned from a tour of the Alps :clap however the only problem was the EWS failure happened to me again while in Italy :nenau called BMW assist and was taking to a local BMW dealer who swapped a transponder from one of his own bikes. This was fixed at my local dealer 7 weeks ago :spitfire anyone else had this?

also the guy that came to take my bike to the dealer has marked my frame etc with the way in which he "tied" it on is it worth while showing my dealer?

Cheers

After having by bike picked-up by Mondial recently for a (10,000 mile) clutch failure, caused by a leaking oil seal, BMW sent out a questionaire: was the call answered promptly, was the technician polite, your comments, etc...

The letter was from Gareth Davies, Emergency Service Manager, Mondial House, 102 George Street, Croydon, CR9 1WZ.

May be worth dropping a line to him if the dealer is not helpful.

I went to my local dealer who told me to contact BMW Uk, which i did, they will send out forms for me to fill in and take it from there. I explained it was not BMW dealer in italy it was the recovery "team" . it would appear BMW themselves do a great job of customer care but allow non BMW staff to bring there service down.

This just happend to me too. Dealer says he is going to replace the entire computer chip. Any others out there or is this just a rare case? I dont want to be out deep in the woods some place and have it quit on me... Jarid

The EWS Failure has happened several times on mine. I just switch the ignition off and back on again: This has worked everytime so far (famous last words  ?). I'm on 4.5k miles at the moment, I expect BMW to sort it on the 6k service.

Lets start a club!!!

I too suffered EWS Failure. I rode from North Germany down through Austria, and into Italy ( Lake Garda) and had 12 wonderful days riding and eating. On the way back up through Switzerland I noticed that everytime I went to start the bike the EWS warning prevented startation of my beast. I too did the quick switch off, and switch on technique and yes it worked for a bit until I got to Bodden See in Germany again. It finally ended up flashing in my display EWS/ Screw you buddy !!! and did not want to play anymore. I dutifully phoned BMW and they were at my side within 2 hours with a nice trailer and X5 full of shiny things. Off we trundled to BMW where the mechanic stuck his finger in the back of the ignition area, wiggled and pushed summat and swore in German. It was fixed!! Gar-un-teed!!.......
Yea so like 4 hours later it was acting up again but I made it home 7 hours later than expected.
BMW have since replaced the whole barrell and electronic whatsit and now all is well. Oh and it costed me nuffink :thumb
