EWS RECALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it is the battery is it possible it could drain so quickly from Friday? No alarm on, but I wired in the sat nav last week and tapped the positive onto the lighter socket and negative to the battery. Thats the only hing I have changed since i bought it

I think that I would be associating the two.

Well there was I think it was a shame for you guys to be experiencing this problem

I bought a low milage second hand 07 GSA just over a week ago. Been great to ride. Go out today, put the key in the ignition and "click"! Look at the dash and the red triangle is showing with "brake failure" on constantly. I am new to this so I am not sure what is going on. So I do it again and the same "click" and message. I am thinking it may be the battery, so putit on charge for a bit and turn the key again. This time multiple clicks and "EWS!" sign comes up. Try it again and I go back to one click and the brake message. Charge it a bit, multiple clicks and EWS! You get the idea........

I guess this is the EWS? and not some thing else? Either way bike won't go.....very disappointed indeed as this is my first BM and all my other bikes have been totally reliable!

Its still in warranty, so can I get it fixed at any dealer, as I am a distance from the dealer I purchased off of?

Tne red triangle will show untill the bike travels a few metres and does a self check. Can't understand why you have not noticed it B4!ut the other thing is probably your EWS : (

I think you may be right. Just went out and it turned over this time but did not fire and then the click, click again!

The click would make me think it's a battery issue, with an EWS fault you get a yellow warning triangle rather than a red and the bike is completely dead. :spitfire

If you tapped into the under seat socket for the sat nav powered feed it will shut down with the rest of the bikes systems about 60 seconds after removing the key so it won't be an issue.

Unfortunately batteries to fail on the bike, but your dealer sould be able to eplace it under the warranty :thumb

Is it a Quest ;)

Thanks for the replies guys

Yes definately a power issue and I have the bike started and went for a blast without a problem.

Yes I have taped the positive into the underseat power socket and the negative onto the negative ternimal of the battery, so did not think it would be an issue as I had heard the socket shuts down soon after you take the key out of the ignition. The optimate however has not shown anything wrong with the battery, although I am not sure it would.

Its either my duff wiring or the battery/ charging system. I will kepp an eye over the next few days

the new modified ring has the word "ignition" written on the outer edge of the
antenna ring. just informed by a local dealer that there will be recall to have affected bikes sorted. my may/08 1200gs has the new ring fitted from factory.:clap

Mine died with Ews last week "mar 2008 1200adv"

Had it relayed back to dealers and fitted latest "247" part all ok now but i still took a spare as they could not confirm if this was the final cure.
not bad list of warranty claims so far
1. front esa
2. ews
3. leaking h/lamp

and modial relay damaged front fork leg + silencer on ews saga, waiting for replacement parts.

still love the bike.

Good thinking that man:thumb

Mine is being changed today, i asked if i could keep the old non-problematic one as a spare with no luck. All the old ones are being returned to manufacturer.
Maybe they will send them out again revamped to the dealers that didnt get their orders in quick.

Just spoke to Park Lane service department - they confirmed that mine (May 08 bike) is due for a recall for the ring antenna, but since they are in such short supply they are not replacing them unless they go wrong, but I shouldn't worry as only 1 in 10 go wrong, and I have breakdown cover!! Now, why don't I feel reassured by this? It is booked in for the software update etc in 10 days time, they said I should have a word with them when I bring the bike in and see if I can persuade them to replace the ring antenna...watch this space!

If its been confirmed that your bike is part of the 'campaign' to have it replaced, why on earth should you have to 'persuade' them to do it?

Just checked with Bahnstormer and my August 06 GS is on the list for EWS replacement which they will do in a couple of weeks time when they replace the gearbox/engine seal :augie

oh ..... plus replacing the leaking oil radiator aaaaannnnnd the left hand section which screen srews to which is corroding badly

Exactly my point - why should I have to argue with them when they have confirmed (by reference to my VIN number) that mine is subject to the recall (and by the way, they referred to it as a recall not a campaign)? Their answer seems to be that it is because the part is in such short supply they are prioritising the parts for bikes that break down. Which is not much of an answer, in my humble opinion. After all, mine might be the next to break down and I want (and think I am entitled) to avoid that possibility!

Had a 6k service on my August 07 today. Ocean in Plymouth couldn't change the atenna as they are waiting on delivery of the replacement parts. Look's like the bike will have to go back in a couple of weeks to be done.

+1 :thumb

Yes - I thought this gentlman's posts sounded a bit selfish and unreasonable.

without knowing what someone is using the bike for that's a bit unfair. I'm about to head off for a week island hopping around Scotland, hotels booked, ferries paid for and an ews or antenna failure could ruin that trip, it takes the service van a while to get to Harris :) and then you are returned home losing out on a trip you've looked forward to and paid for.

my bike isn't my daily transport so under normal circumstances i wouldn't be bothered and TBH if its that important you aren't inconvenienced you buy a spare relay and antenna like i have anyway but I can see why someone might consider it important that their bike ( if its in a recall) should be fixed quickly.

I still hold to my opinion; we can all make a case for being important:rob

I too carry those two components as spares - in fact my spare antenna ring is off around Turkey at the moment being carried as a spare by a nice chap I met in Morocco. I can use the recovery service but he can't and he'll post it back to me at the end of his adventure.

In fact the one's that will get done first are good customers - just human nature ;)
