EWS RECALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My top ring has no "Ignition" on it and my top number ends in 207
Do we know what part numbers are failing?

Not sure if my dealer has made a mistake but...

My Antenna shows:
EWS_Antenna.jpg

Which seems to indicate I have Part Number 6135 7705247-01 which appears to be the correct P/N for the 'working' Antenna, but when my GS received its 600 mile service, the checkin/worksheet had EWS Antenna Failure awaiting parts written across it.

So either:
1) The dealer or BMW's VIN based parts list has made a mistake not realizing that my May 2008 already has the fix applied
2) The part that ends in 247 is not the fixed part.

Will have to wait and see whether or not I actually get a recall letter when they get the parts in stock.

I have a May 06 GS, and having my 2 year service last Friday (Hursts Belfast), was told to return it in July for the Ring Antenna.

My part number ends with 136.

I was not aware that a 06 would fall under the recall, but they insisted it did.

All work will be free of charge, even outside warranty, i did confirm this before i left.

I have had it happen 4 times in total so hopefully no more worries about the dreaded Amber Triangle and those three dreaded letters - "E W S"

Just had my 2006 1200GSA recovered to Battersea for this reason - they said they have had quite a few in recently! Fourth time I've had the bike recovered in less than 2 years - all for different reasons. More missed appointments and half a day wasted and feeling rather agrieved at the mo!

1,000 miles on brand new bike - broken down twice - once with duff battery and they insisted it was OK, but put a new one on the end, second time fuel pump upgrade required. Now, as I was worried about the bike ignition, phoned Bahnstormer who advised they had no parts and any upgrade could only happen within 3-4 weeks. Called NOG who quickly advised me that my biike needed a recall and they had 150 units in stock and they were recalling around 300 bikes for the same problem.
I didn't risk the bike to go to the GP in Donnington, phoned Bahnstormer Monday and had a moan and my bike was taken in the same day. Amazing how they suddenly found some parts!
I am currently awaiting it's return.
NOG told me that only 07 and 08 bikes were affected by this problem! One thinks, is it safe to take a BMW anywhere?!

Depends if the dealers have a ring in stock and how busy they are.

Fitting I believe takes a couple of hours? :nenau

BM are paying the dealers for 1/2 an hour. Mine isn't impressed as access isn't easy, especially as you apparently have to drill out a couple of screws that hold the antenna into the ignition and they reckon 1/2 an hour is "hopefull".

Find me a dealer that is ever impressed by 'recall' or 'campaign' timed work, on behalf of a manufacturer.....

My spare unit has the IGNITION word printed on it and i bought it 3 months ago hows that then if it's the new one just out...

+1 :thumb

Yes - I thought this gentlman's posts sounded a bit selfish and unreasonable.

Sorry - I didn't think it was selfish or unreasonable to ask! I do appreciate that if the parts are in short supply the priority has to be for those who actually break down. I just hope it's not me next!!

I too carry those two components as spares - in fact my spare antenna ring is off around Turkey at the moment being carried as a spare by a nice chap I met in Morocco. I can use the recovery service but he can't and he'll post it back to me at the end of his adventure.)

Now there's an idea! We could pool our spares and lend them to one another ... we probaly have enough between us for a few complete motorcycles. I have a tool kit so can easily remove parts from my bike ... FD anyone?!

:D

Seriously though ... that's a very generous thing to do :thumb ... anyway, I have an 07 GS Adventure (November) ... I'm just dropping my dealer a line to see if it's affected ...

Phoned BVM Stroud thay asked for VIN number on my 56 reg gsa and said I need to book in for EWS recall and softwear up date booked in at my conveniance.

Popped into SBW to check on my 08 GSA (Feb build) . Its due the shock and antenna.
Decided to do at my convenience , picked up a -247 antenna just in case (plenty in stock).
Apparently they're still awaiting a 'tool' to access the antenna without taking the top yoke off .

Stu

My local dealer is waiting on the quick-fit tool from BMW before they send out the letters.
As said before the job is booked at 1 hour, but without the tool it takes longer and the dealer looses money on every one they do.

My March 08 GSA was not on the EWS recall 2 weeks ago but now is

In Pidcocks this morning to have faulty heated grips replaced and they will change the EWS ring at the same time.

Had no problems with EWS so far and hopefully the new one is a final solution :augie
