If anyone is thinking about purchasing some metal panniers, I would highly recommend the metal panniers I have just had fitted to my 1150 GS by "Caveman". After reading numerous threads on metal panniers I opted to go for the "Caveman" setup. How pleased I am too. Excellent value, excellent product and an excellent service from "Caveman" who went out of his way and fitted them for me.

Thanks again Paul :)

They look well.
Are they fixed to the carrying frame via 'over centre' sprung tabs ??
(kept in place with the 2 padlocks per box ? )

How easy and quick to remove is the bike mounting frame ??

I have this setup too.

To remove your panniers you unlock two padlocks... looking at the locks in the photo they are supplied by Caveman and they are one key yales with rubber coating.

Once the panniers are off, the mounting frame is held on either side by 3 dzuess conections. ie... a quarter of a turn with a screwdriver on each conection and the whole frame comes away in seconds leaving just a couple of very discreet mounts that unless you know what you are looking for are not noticable at all.

I too can recomend these not only for price and quality but also the service you get from Paul aka Caveman.

Can you get a wider one for the right hand side to even the look up. And give us a clue -- rough cost?

Cheers for that.. :thumb

I`ve been after some proper sized and decent shaped panniers to replace my System ones...but have been put off all the other alloy systems due to the pig ugly ironwork on view when you don`t use the panniers...
These look like the way to go.... :beerjug:

Flashman what size are your panniers 36 or 41? Paul has got my set waiting for me but still undecided to have a 36/41 set up to even up the look.

But it is really good looking at your set up, excellant photo from the rear best I have seen so far. Being cheeky do a matching one from the front so we can see how wide it all is, can compare against the handbars, heads etc then.

Trippy,

I don't think there's a need to even up the look - the panniers are the same size and are fitted at equal distance from the centre of the bike. £396 inclusive.

ShaunT279,

The panniers are both 36 litres. I'll do the photo for you tomorrow when its light. :)

Yeah looking at the photo again I can see its my eye's, good price too.

This is the best piccie I had on file re the mounting brackets.

If you look at the rear number plate you will see one of them. The other is just under the front part of the seat and the third is attatched to the pillion footpeg bracket.

So you can see when I say discreet thats exactly what they are. :thumb

Here's a couple more photos which show the attachment between frame and bike. As mentioned earlier in this thread the frame is attached to the bike by four Dzus fasteners, one of which his a lockable knob (pictured next to the seat in the first photo below).

Well I havn't dropped the bike with the panniers on yet but they are 2mm ali and if they were dented it's nothing you couldn't bash out again.

As with any pannier system... they are not designed to withstand 60mph broadsides. They will however act as a crumple zone and will certainly help protect the riders legs etc in the case of an "off".

The cost of replacing one of these boxes if they are beyond repair would be far cheaper than replacing the original BM parts that would suffer damage if they were not fitted.

Thats just my two peneth...

Someone told me these panniers were a bit delicate?

How do you think they would fair, if you dropped the bike?
Boz is currently riding around South America with these boxes fitted to his 1200. I believe that he's succeeded on dropping it on just the odd occasion. Check out his blog....URL in my sig....for pics.

I've said it before

But if you want a good, honest set of boxes for your bike, then you won't go far wrong with these ones.I've yet to see a pair in the flesh, but they look plenty good enough for 99% of people who ride, and they haven't got touracrap on the side either, plus you get to meet the bloke who makes and sells them. What more do you want from a bit of kit :beerjug:

ShaunT279,

The photos from the front as promised above:

You can see there's very little in it. The panniers probably increase the overall width by no more than a couple of inches compared to the handlebar width.

Cheers Flashman, spoke to Paul today and finished paying :( so my pair of 41's are on there way when fitted will post a few pics, as mine will be on a 12.
