Having recently had the rear wheel off my bike, re-fitting it and adjusting the chain tension to the limits given in the manual, I now seem to have some nasty chain slap going on when running at slow speeds.

At 25/30mph, the chain is bouncing off the chain guide constantly, sounding awful and probably wearing the guide. I have since tightened the chain slightly, but it is still happening. I am concerned about running it too tight, so just wondered if anyone else has seen this.

Is everybody running to the tension recommended in the manual - how much tighter can I go without damaging anything??

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

Had the same problem a few weeks ago, I had actually overtightened hence the slapping. It did nowever look slack enough when load off the wheel.

Try easing it off a bit and see how that goes.

Chain will be at it's tightest when front sprocket (gearbox output shaft), swing arm pivot, and rear axle are all in line.
Borrow a willing weight :D or strap down to achieve this state and check chain isn't too tight. :thumb

I had this after about 3000 miles on the OEM chain. I tried everything i could to sort it with no luck.

i decided to put a DID chain on and its still going strong after about 10000 miles
