I asked this question elsewhere on the forum, but it was buried mid thread so not entirely sure I'd get a response, so NEW thread time is here again.

has anyone had (or even still got, even maybe for sale or swap if you want a 1200?????), an F800ST. i read a few reviews and it seems like some people are blissfully happy with them, and some people arent. i like the idea of a belt drive, but I do sort of wonder how long they tend to last and what breaks them. Anyone got one that would care to comment.

thank you once again, looking forwartd to your views.

P.S. Was criticised recently for being, err what was the term, ah yes "Not very self reliant". Done my research this time but wanted an up to date response from actual owners rather than people who might have ridden one round a car park for 3 minutes 10 years ago.....

Right.

can I go now.

PLEASE!!!

I had one love d it power 60 mpg has a 17.5 ltr tank just found it too small back to a 12rt

Hi

I had one before my 650GS twin (and before that a 1200st).

Loved the performance & economy & brakes of the 800ST, belt drive very convenient. I didn't have any belt issues although I changed bike after 12K. I did have some minor issues some of which affect (or have affected) the GS too (i.e. cutting out - sorted by software upgrade, engine paint flaking).

I prefer the riding position and suspension travel of the GS (and so does my neck). For bumpy & twisty B roads the GS is better for me; if I mostly rode open smooth sweepers I'd have stuck with the ST.

The 1200ST was storming - just too long for my short reach for tight cornering i.e. hairpins.

Hope this helps?

I had one from june 2006 - june 2010.
Had quite some issues with it like th rear bearing and after the Stator broke after about 48K km, I bought the F800GS, which I like more, because of its more comfortable suspension.

Besides of the teething, I liked the ST much, but I prefer my F800GS much more nevertheless it has a chain drive.

I have to add, that I've haven't have any problems until now with my GS after 41K km.

I had one and loved it :thumb

It's the BMW equivalent of the Honda Deuville ... if that makes any sense :aidan

BMW are launching a new updated F800ST possibly with an 850 engine sometime later this year I think . Just something to consider if you are buying a new one as if may be worth hanging on for the new model or perhaps getting a clearance deal on the outgoing one.:thumb
