Farkling my new to me R1150GSA.

Part 5

Not a farkle, but more of an anti farkle or return to spec. When riding early Monday morning I noticed the headlight was illuminating through a hole in the rear of the headlight connection. Thought it was odd but I’m an 1150 noob so thought nothing of it! Tom at a bike thing saw it and thought it was odd straightaway. Once again, onto Motorworks for some assistance.

They advised it definitely should not be open and definitely needed covering up! Unfortunately, they don’t sell them new and were out of stock for used.

About a week ago I bought a used headlight unit off of eBay for an absolute steal. My plan was to experiment with an LED bulb upgrade, but as I’ve previously stated I hate anything electrical. 😂

Lo and behold when I opened the box to the new headlight, it had two intact cover plates!

Hopefully I haven’t committed an GSer sin by covering this 😂 but she’s done and back to spec.

P.s. clock is now reading the correct time of 15:07. 👍🏻

That hole is due to a past HID set up. Which I currently have. It makes a MASSIVE difference to seeing in the dark.
I have ( thanks to Les Wassel ) a standard ballast in the dipped beam and a fast ballast in the main beam. The two ballasts are stuck up under the beak.

I got quoted €500+ for an LED upgrade from DoctorLight. Do you have any photos of the HID set up? Its something I’m considering after the Denali’s made such a difference 👍🏻

That’s for completely new LED headlights, not for LED bulbs. Try LEDPerf - I got LED bulbs (for the standard headlights) from them and I’m really happy with them.
They may or may not be on their way and they may or may not be due for delivery tomorrow 😂

I really fancied an after market exhaust and they’re like gold dust for these old bikes. Unless I wanted to pay £500+ for a brand new Akra!!

Luckily Twizzle had an old cracked Remus in the garage he was happy to pass over to me free of charge.

Part 6

Twizzle let me take the exhaust off his hands free of charge like a true GSer. It was looking a little worse for ware and was the reason for an MOT failure.

I’m the sort of person that likes a proper job doing - this welding was some what questionable 😂 (no offence to the welder)

I was struggling to get hold of the right TIG wire at my place of work so reached out to a friend for assistance. The finished results below :

Proper job that. And it should last many many more miles! I’ll get some photos when I get her on the bike.

Cracking job that, H!!

Here's my bike aged three months after a Remus and Y piece went on.

It was fun for a couple of years but began to do my head in!! Back to stock for me.0019.jpg

Same here - Y-piece and Remus combined are too loud for my taste as I was reminded when I tried it again last year. The optimal arrangement for me is Y-piece with the standard can but others go the other way - keep the cat but fit a stubby, Remus or whatever.

Part 6.5

I’ll be fitting the exhaust Saturday… don’t worry!

Photos to follow.

Another nod back to the OEM. Love the look of the GSA with the handlebar crash pad. 👍🏻 (don’t ask how much I paid for it).

How much was it ?
They are only £25 from a BMW main dealer …..
Always buy from a BMW main dealer as sometimes you get surprised at the prices of some things

Yes I ran a stubby off the original cat after the Remus.

I've now gone back to the standard can off the standard cat, as BMW intended. Heavy? Yes, but I love the sound.

I also did the Y piece, Remus can, stubby thing. The drone from the exhaust also got on my tits after about 20 mins. Mine is now back to standard. Much nicer.

I’ll see how I get on, but it’s nice to have the option 😁 I’ve an SC project on my 1250GSA and it just makes me smile every time I crank open the throttle or roll off for that matter 😁

Is that from Motorrad-Bohling?
Nope AJ’s (Vertu) at Shipley or Barrie Robson at York
I see the yellow one is out of stock now (it wasn’t last year) and blue is now back in stock (was obsolete)
$36 on Max BMW tonight and that works out to about £29
I bought 2 yellow ones and 2 red ones a couple of years ago and put them in the loft for future
They were less than £24 each

I didn’t think the Y piece and Remus too loud TBH……( after my Dyna…..)
