With a very heavy heart I traded in my 05 1200 for a younger model today! :tears
Not owned by me from new, but bought off a mate & know it's history from day one.
So here goes (you might like look away 1150 riders, it aint pleasant reading)

No final drive problems

No FPC problems

No corrosion problems

No ring antenna problems

Still on first battery

Always started first time every time

No warranty work ever done other than a check on the hand guards

THIS WAS AN EXCELLENT, RELIABLE, QUALITY BIKE! :clap

So, with top box swapped over & the worlds most travelled unused FPC under the seat I start a new era on the twin cam!:JB

Like you stick I had Wilbers fitted to my old bike BUT didn't have the old shocks, so had to give 'em up today!:tears

Hope you found a new home for your set, best mod you can do to a GS in my opinion.

About 3k less than the factory fitted silver one still in service today!

Bike has 23k on the clock! :thumb

Nice to hear that you have enjoyed a flawless ownership and hope that the twin cam is just as reliable. I have the 2010 twin cam 7k miles and has been fantastic with no issues.:clap

I must say that has been my own experience with BMWs over the last few years no problems am I lucky? Or are others unlucky? JJH rt 1200 24k miles no probs. JJH

Different enough to be a different bike.:thumb

I think you make a bit of your own luck to be honest!
Change your shaft fluid, keep your FPC dry, fit an optimate etc . . .
. . . It aint rocket science

I would love to make a similar post about my 2005... but I intend to keep it and don't want to jinx myself... :blast

Al...

I'm really sorry about this but.....FPC? Pleeease excuse my ignorance (I probably know it already, but it's late at work & I can't think at the moment!)

:)

Good to read something positive about 1200 ownership for a change.:augie

21k miles on my GSA now, and nothing more than a headlight bulb has failed.:thumb

I loves it i do

My 05 has nearly 70k on it now theres been a few giltches but nowt to write home about, its never left me stranded,Its run an open exhuast with no cat and no baffles for the last 40k,I last cleaned it 2 yrs ago,out in all weathers, ive snapped the froks off it in a major shunt, bent the frame, repaired it,binned it again and it just wont die!

Ive got some new wilbers coming next week:bounce1 and im gona clean it this year and generally give it some love over the xmas period and then hopefully we will plough on to 100k:JB

Is this an improvment on build quality? Are you lot going to stop moaning?
Does this mean us 1100/1150 owners have got to stop taking the piss? :tears
time will tell:D

These are the kind of stories I want to read in this section, not the usual moaning, pesimistic shite I have to endure! :blast

By the way, just got back from a 450 mile world tour of Wales on the twin cam. Not too sure about those Michelin Annakees & the grips aint as hot as my old bikes FOR SURE, but what a blissfull ride the new bike is. :bounce1
