With the number of FD bearing failures on the GS I read on this site, is this problem occurring on the R & RT models .... or is it just on the GS??

Regards

RT’s are just as susceptible as GS’s as far as I know

St.Eptoe seems to be of the opposite opinion :nenau

There are theories here about the possible reasons, including geometry (higher suspension travel leading do different forces acting through bearing etc) and use of bike (Only old men ride RT's :augie)

I may be wrong though

If you frequent 'BMW Sport Touring' for a few years you see the same FD problems coming up there as you do here. It’s predominantly an RT forum.

At one time they said only old men rode BMW’s – Times are a changing :D

Mate of mine has just had the FD on his 09 RT replaced by BuMW under warranty, so the problems continue, and not just on GSs

doubt the RT duffers fill theirs up with water quite so much.

Not tried water, is it better than gear oil? Mine has not got hot, even after 200 miles on German autobahns. Cant see using Viton seals would help.(re another post) If the F drive is getting hot it's buggered. Mine is pretty cool, leaking, no wheel play but makes a cluncking noise when wheelis spun. Still had a great ride around Northern Ireland country roads today.

They are improving them though last one went at 6k on an 06 plate latest bike an 09 it went at 9.5k. Mechanic said the 2010 models are slightly different internals so hey maybe even 15k possible!:thumb
