FD Castle Nut

If you make another batch I'll have one as well.
Dont worry about the time consuming deburring, I can happily do that myself. :)

Hi Pat,

I need to remove my castlenut from my k1200s, and i can't find the right tool for it, do you have one for for me, or am i too late?

Regards,
John

Good day Pat,
I'd like one of these tools if or when you're making a new batch. Are you making more?
Regards, Steve.

Ever thought of making a small batch for distribution through an online retailer like Nippy Normans, Motorworks or Sherlocks? Nobody else makes the tool required AFAIK.

If Pat does not have any more I have one if somebody would like it for what i paid for it.

If you could send it to the NL.. YES please!

I can't go any furter now, the final shaft bearing is totaly ruined, and i can't get the nut out of the house without this tool, my holiday starts in 3 weeks and i like to take my beemmer with me to the french/spanish mountains.

Payment with PP is no problem.

:)

If possible that would be really nice, last weekend my '05 K started to do some strange thingies, speedometer went up&down (0-300km/h), and the abs warning light didn't go out anymore.
When i came home i checked the rear abs sensor, because it is also responsible for the signal of the speedometer, and a lot of iron was on the sensor. After cleaning the speedometer was okay, but the strange noise was still there.. after 80000km the bearing was at his end. The oil was like silver paint, so the final drive has to be fixed or replaced.

New replacement cost me over 1400,- euros, a lot of money for a little box with some alu/steel parts in it, second hand is no option because all the final drives wont last a long time, and you have to get the good part, because the 2007> versions won't fit on the K, and they have 2 different colours (mine is black)

:)

Please read Patz thread on stripping and rebuilding the drive, some heavy gear needed.

Just in case peeps think its a five minute job.:nenau

Even BMW don't rebuild FDs. Though they do replace wheel bearings.
Send it by parcel delivery to Mikey Boy. He has the fixtures and equipment to fully rebuild final drives. I prefer to DIY where I can but this is just too much. Even getting the right amount of heat would be tough without risking damage. So when mine needs doing it's off to Melton Mowbray.

Heavy gear is no problem.. and as a mechanic i think that i can handle this job, but the trick now is to get rid of that stupid nut! :blast

Let's not forget that Steptoe (who originally wrote the 'how-to' on here) also rebuilds FD's...
