Had a real close one today near Killin. 2 Fekin horses on the road, I really do think ,Very strongly i might add, that they should not , never ever be allowed to be ridden or taken anywhere near a fekin main road.

Anyway after taking evasive action minus half my back fekin tyre and a bit of the front ,by going down the other side of the road i unfortunately scared the sh*t out of a bike coming the other way.so i appologise in case you happen to be reading this.

Also poor simemus who had just managed to stop and wondered what the Feck i was up too.

How come the stereotype of horsey riders is this:nenau

When in fact it's fat, spotty, unwashed, mingers generally taking up the road:mad:

i can't understand why riders of horses get away with their animal shitting all over the road while dog owners get fined?

I have to walk to my pub while stepping over piles of horse crap.

Make the spoilt pubescent daughters pick the rancid faeces that their animals shite up.

Dirty bitches :(

I agree always wondered why they didn't have too.

I always slow down for them ,but half the time you get a LOOK from them like you should'nt be on the road.

yesterday was fekin madness as there was a fair bit of traffic about , stupid and dangerous.

On another note saw a new KTM ADV R. very cool, plus the lad on it could fairly go a bike.Plenty of power two up and it was still quicker than the GS.

Half a tonne of bone and muscle, an instinct to run away and an independent spirit ... and the best off-road vehicle you will ever try :)

Its simple ... slow down and give them as much space as you can. If you meet some off road then stop, switch off you engine and wait until they are clear. Just nod when the riders thank you as a muffled voice can be worrying to some horses.

You’ve guessed it, I used to ride horses :thumb2 I think all riders and horses should pass a test before using roads but that isn't the case so just take it easy and no one gets hurt.

The riding stables in Skye is situated at chicane in the road a miniture Laguna corkscrew.

On the blind section of the bend is a side road where a 13yrold girl steps out with a shitty Hi viz vest and sticks her hand up in the air to stop traffic then a prosession of pony trekkers cross the road.

There's going to be carnage one day mark my words:rob

Ban horse's:thumb

Let's ban them.

Let's ban pedestrians too.

How often do most people witness bad horse-riders, compared to say, let me think,..........

Bad car drivers?

Or, (heresy) bad motorcycle riders?

At least horse-shit has some use as opposed to the Kentucky-Fried boxes that some cars leave behind.

I think that horses are only good to be used as glue. I dare say that there are a lot of people who think that motorcycles should be banned.

Thank fcuk we don't just do what every self-absorbed tw@t wants.

If horse riders can't control their oversized pets then IMHO they shouldn't be on the road, I wouldn't dream of walking my dogs down a country lane without being prepared to move onto the verge with them if a car or bike comes along.

However I do show courtesy to horses wherever possible, purely for the animals sake.

Could any horse riders on here give advice on my dilemma. My commute to work is on local lanes that are very poular with horse riders, especially now the weathers getting better (didn't see many in the February snows - fair weather riders:augie:augie). Both my bikes, an 1150GSA and an Aprilia Pegaso pop a good bit on the overrun so the question is, do I carry on past them at 40ish mph and get an angry riding whip shaken in the air or do I back off, (pop, pop, pop, BANG, pop, pop) and watch the best part of a ton of independantly thinking meat try and launch itself into orbit?

I know what I think is best but I'd be interested to here any other opinions.

If you want to move a horse from one field to another put it in a horse box and drive it there. If you want to ride the horse ride it round the bloody field. IMO theres no reason to ride a horse on the road, you can`t exactly commute on one can you?
I do give horses a wide bearth and slow right down for them though :thumb2

Actually, a lot of them do.

The British Horse Society (BHS) sets standards and trainee riders get training via their Pony Clubs or other Horse clubs. They sit practical tests at the end.

That's what was going on at Newtonmore when we stopped for lunch there earlier this year.

Both my daughters have the necessary BHS qualifications (it includes horse care, stable management, and so on as well as roadcraft).

And horse riders (usually) have Insurance for third-party liability, I'm not sure that the same can be said for cyclists.

We have to share the roads will all sorts of 'users' - have you ever rounded a bend and encountered 50 cyclists on an 'event' (I have) ?

Or a pack of hikers / hill walkers just over a blind crest with the sun in your eyes (yes again) ?

You just have to drive / ride within your stopping distance.

And before Johnny says it . . Yes I am getting old :rob :rob

Bob.

Doyle, were you wearing a brown Jacket & if so was it brown at the front as well. Think I followed you down to the Killin turn off. Just thought it may noo be a bit browner :)

Not sure if it's a military urban myth but I remember a story in the RAF that in Queen's Regulations it said if you rocked up for work on a horse then the guardroom staff were duty bound to stable it for you.

Never had the balls (or the horse for that matter) to try it :D

yep that was him, happened about a minute after we turned off at lynx toll.

was just about a scene fae police academy!!

horses are a thing of the past, the wheel was invented an the tractor too. any other road user gets charged if they are not in total control of there vehicle so why should horse riders get to go around on somethin that has a mind of it's own...

Ridden horses, like pedestrians, were there first! Anything or anyone that comes along later should design their machine, road use, and behaviour around what was already in existence.
Apart from the minuscule amount of truly new roads, (i.e. new routes not just upgrading of old routes), we owe pedestrians, horse riders, and carriage drivers a great debt for forging thousands of miles of what we now enjoy as 'CARRIAGEWAYS!. The only thing that the motor generation are responsible for are Motor ways
