Hey there,
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a ferry to norway from scotland or the north of england? i have been scouring the net but not getting anywhere.
cheers
M

I think the DFDS service that used to run was discontinued. I think you have to go via Denmark(Esbjerg) from Harwich now :thumb

Can't you get the ferry from Aberdeen to Shetlands then from there to Bergen? Used to be able to, just not the fastest as its 24 hours first leg, not sure about connections. Keep meaning to check for a wee trip some time to Lapland
or is that the discontinued one?

As far as i am aware, Smyril Line binned their Norway/Shetland connection at the same time they stopped coming into Scrabster, but there may be a summer only ferry to Norway from Shetland.

Cheers for the info, i thought i was going daft because there are websites advertising routes but i was getting a right royal runaround!
The comercial line looks like the best option.
Has anyone toured over that way? any hints tips or general info?
M

I can not help much... :tears
I believe you won't get any closer then Denmark.

But on the bright side there are more then one ferry from the north of Denmark to Sweden or Norway every day! :)
And we have the ferry Sandefjord (Norway) to Strømstad (Sweden).

And we have a ferry from Kiel (Germany) to Oslo; not cheap and it take all night. -But you'll see a lot of our fjord, and you can see the ski jump Holmenkollen from the ship!

:) Liv.

Yep, that's the easiest way.
Of course it means a long ride through the UK and Denmark, but the commercial crossing runs the risk of being bumped if there isn't space for you, so if you are on schedule you might not make it....

Might have done. ;)

UK to Norway Ferries

I wanted to take my bike + me and the wife to the west coast of Norway in about June, 2010: preferably from a port in the north of England. Does anyone have any information to update the ferry information already posted? Do I have to travel through Kiel to try and connect with a ferry service to Norway? What is the best way of getting (with a bike) from UK to the west coast of Norway (or even to Oslo)? I am living in Canada so informed replies from people closer to the scene are much appreciated.

The info in this thread (re Harwich to Esbjerg/Hirtshals to Kristiansand) above is still valid. So you don't have to go through Kiel no.

As is the info in this post, but the timings are far more restrictive:
Not everyone knows this, so I’ll post it up as a ‘heads up’ If you just want to do Norway the easiest route might be the freight ferry from Immingham to Brevik, Norway with DFDF Tor Line (yes they do take the pubic and bikes) It’s not exactly cheap and the ferry times aren’t exactly convenient, but it cuts out a heap of time, miles and messing around, which probably makes it much cheaper in the end…

Passengers on Freight Ships
Passengers, their cars and caravans are welcome on board our freight ships on AngloBridge (Immingham/Tilbury - Gothenburg v.v.), BalticBridge (Klaipeda - Copenhagen/Fredericia v.v.), BritanniaBridge (Immingham - Esbjerg v.v.), ElbeBridge (Immingham - Cuxhaven v.v.), EuroBridge (Ghent - Gothenburg/Brevik v.v.) and on NorBridge (Immingham - Norway v.v).

P.S. I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the waypoints!
