hi all.
dust seals on my forks are shot, i have fitted new ones but in doing so, i thought i would bleed the air out of them (like you do on mx bikes) . when i removed the nut from the top of the fork, there was a vacuum in the fork that dragged it in 6", is this right? if so, what is the required hight to set the fork at please.

also, can you buy the valve separately from the transmitter, on the tyre pressure sensor?

The fork leg has an air release screw in the top. To fit you loosen the screw and push the legs right down. Then lift then up and bolt into the top yoke swivel bearings. When the legs are extended the vacuum stops the legs over pressuring and blowing the seals.

Personally I would have fitted better seals and pumped up the fork to give an air spring effect.

The TPS are basically a one piece unit - you can replace the small seal that sits over the valve and the valve core itself but otherwise that's it.

If the fork sucked down before you started the seals change, the seals can't be "shot". If they were leaking there would be no vacuum inside the leg.

another question. what flavour oil is recommended for the final drive? i have searched but cant find a specific brand recommended. looking on line, there is a gazillion different brands from £5 to £55 for a litre.

I use the full synthetic 75w140 from Opie Millers or Castrol. But for a new final drive the plain vanilla EP80 is the better bet.
