Hi Gang,

Bike is a 03 gsa. IT's a twinspark at 33,500 miles. Had a full 30,000 mile service in a dealers. Went to the dealer to get the stamp on the book...never again.
Bike is out of tune again:mad: I'm planning on doing a check on the valves and end float over teh weekend but nearly all of the info I've collected over the last few years refers to the 1100 single spark gs'. Is it normal for a bike to go very out of tune after just 3000 miles??

Are the clearances the same as for the 1100's?

When sitting on bike, engine running, the left mirror is vibrating very badly whilst the right isn't:confused:The left cylinder seems to give a big 'thunk' every so often on a cold start. Does this indicate anything or is this normal when the bike needs tuning?

oh, she's surging a bit as well...hoping this will be cured by setting the valves and end float correctly. This might not make sense but is there any point setting the valves (from cold) and the end float if I don't intend to do a balance at this point in time?

I'd appreciate any opinions you can offer. Particularily a few links to 1150gs twinspark service. I've moved into a house with my OWN GARAGE, so I'd like to try and do this all myself before I consult an independant mechanic I've been hearing good things about...

mmm. Must read up on those...seems like a very common problem. Best hunt round a find the best place to buy one...wonder if anyone in the irish section would have one to lend me for an hour:augie

if i understand this correctly, if I swap the coil packs the problem should carry over to the right hand cylinder. anyway, i'm going to try that first. thanks

I know how you feel ... last year I had a service at the dealer and then the bike went all 'funny' about 2,000 km later!

Yep - coilpack!

Ran like clockwork after a new one.

DOH!

swapped the coil packs. the left one looks very similar to the one Eliminator has posted from his bike. Bike ran much smoother on the way home but it was a nice day today and i've been having issues on the cold start. vibes are defo reduced on the left mirror. Thanks folks, I'll be buying a new coilpack as soon as possible. Might just replace them both and keep the good one that i have as a spare.

Well worth the subscription fee this place:thumb

Dunno if it will make any difference, but I recently put a thin smidge of silicone grease on mine recently, optimistically  it may weatherproof them and make them last longer. Also did it to the coilpacks:P

I had a eureka moment. I took the'coil ' pack out on my initial check on the bike previously. Put two and two together and understand more.

Possibly not the best place to post this but does anyone know anyone who rebuilds steering dampners on r1100r's???? Tis to rebuild the one on my r850R

Also, Eliminator, the eureka moment was me putting acf50 on everything in feb. Saw the corrosien then. I feel a strange buzz of pride now my coil pack has failed. Must put up post on techniques for cleaning out sand from obscure places...
