Final Drive Bearings ?

See what you mean about the bearing including Guzzi ones failing at very low mileage.
I think I shall visit my local bearing supplier and using our job 60% discount see if i can find something higher spec for the unit i'm going to rebuild.
Maybe though BM should be looking very carefully at the failure rates and sourcing different suppliers

You maybe right, on one thread I read of a Guzzi with 'that' bearing which had failed, the bearing was allegedly made in China :o

Not that I'm suggesting BMW would fit Chinese bearings or that there was anything wrong with Chinese bearings! :D

Bloody hell a despatch GS with 300k on the clock! Out of interest what year? And how much did he get for it?

Simon

Monster bike. Also did morocco, mostly on unmade not on the map roads. 3 days of getting stuck in sand- the pictures he has are unbelievable

The bike in question - fitted with a K1 swingarm and rear bevel. He swopped it for a "rally landrover disco"

Monster bike!.

Just what a gs should look like. (mines been close!.)

Mpnster bike.

Just a thought what was the idea of the K swinging arm etc?, any reason or just a repair?.

curiosity

out of curiosity. does the smaller bearing fail too, or is it always the larger outer bearing that fails?
regards Paul

On both the stripped down bevel boxes I have the taper small bearing and race have been absolutely fine with no visible wear or rough feel to the bearing. Probably because that type of bearing is designed for that type of application.

Swinging arm

Go on tell me, I won't tell anyone else!.
