Keeps seeing a lot of problems with FD's throughout various websites but what is actually failing? Is it some seal that perishes or what?...As the FD is easily accessible once the rear wheel is removed surely it's easy to fix for a home DIY mechanic without buying a new full FD?? Please, enlighten me!!

FD main spindle outer seal change - piece of cake for a decent home mechanic with some basic tools.

FD main spindle inner oil seal - don't know?

FD input shaft seal - parts available but no special tooling held by dealers yet for the 1200. Make your own tooling and its possible, but you're also likely to need oxy-acetylene to loosen the castellated nut. Own tooling would need a decent lathe and milling machine with dividing head to cut the teeth at 36 degree intervals. The tool would need to be from EN16T or similar grade steel as the internally castellated nut is VERY tight and you don't get much purchase on it with a toothed tool.
