first bmw problem

i got my 2007 gsa a couple of weeks ago and i've been loving it. came with a full tank of fuel and i've covered around 200 carefree miles. stopped at a mates this afternoon for a brew and on leaving the fuel gauge had dropped from half to zero with the orange triangle flashing all the time. I initially thought it could be a float stuck so went and brimmed the tank, turns out it was pretty low as she took 32 litres of esso's finest but the gauge remains on empty with the orange triangle still flashing!!! luckily the bike came with a years parts and labour warranty so i'm hoping it will be covered. i'll give them a call after crimbo. failing that, do i really need a gs911 if i fit a new strip or is it fit and forget. i've done a quick search on here and plenty of people ask but I cant find the answer. I'd have a problem with a gs911 as i'd have to buy a pc for it to work with as we only have apple products in the house gggrrrrrrrr

Yep fuel strip. I had the same issue on a week old 2009 (2nd hand).

Although BMW are giving lifetime warranties to their USA owners, when asked here in the UK they pretty much said we can go forth and fornicate.

If you bought from a dealer (any dealer, not just a bmw one) then you should get them to fix it (about £150), but if a private buy then it's just poor luck.

I was advised on this site that if I could live with the flashing triangle just use the reset odometer to monitor my usage distance of fuel.

Thanks for the heads up. I bought it from the local Ducati dealer and they have always been really good in the past so there no reason to think this will be any different. I did read somewhere that you could jump start the strip back into life, but I can't seem to find it now.

My fuel strip went AWOL in October 13. BMW UK dealer network, as stated, will not replace under good will (should follow the US really....).

All I do now is use the trip/odometer and fill up every 330/350 miles & re-set......job done....

I have another search over the tinterweb and ordered a fire igniter to zap the fuel strip into live. Although mine is covered by warranty I can't help myself from playing lol

200 miles on 32 litres doesn't sound right. Ignoring the fuel gauge it shouldn't take 30 odd litres after just 200 miles. I get 300 to 350 before reserve in my TC GSA

I know what you're saying. I'm guessing it wasn't as full as I'd thought. They said they'd filled the tank up and I didn't look at the gauge for a while as I was still learning where everything was???? I'll keep an eye on that though!!!! I still haven't found a trip meter on it lol

Just been out to the garage. I don't appear to have a trip meter. Looks like with the fuel gauge shot I'll have to keep a note of the mileage one my phone or keep using the sat nav. How frustrating

There's a button in between the dash dials that you press to switch between trip A & B. Press and hold to reset.

On your dash there is a little round button below the Speedo and rev counter, press it to get trip 1, hold it down to reset, press it again to get trip 2, same as before to reset, press it again to get to recorded mileage, at least that's what mine does, RTFM.
