I would like to know if it is possible to fit hard panniers
from a 1200 GSA to a 1200 GS. both year 2011.
Has anyone done it and what does it entail ?

GS Luggage isn't cheap, if you can find a decent set of vario panniers the side cases fit straight on a GS, they can also be re keyed to your bike key so one key fits all, give you an idea of price my bike came with a top box (BMW) and i bought 2 x side cases this year for 350 euro and the guy re keyed them to my key for me.

Slimpickings, I have a pair of vario panniers, mounts and inner bags. I'll stick some photos on after lunch if you're interested

I had a 2010 GSA with BMW alloy panniers. I then bought a 2007 GS as a second bike. This came with vario-panniers. I got a set of GSA mounting frames on eBay fairly cheaply. These fitted straight onto the GS so that I could use my alloy panniers on both bikes. I then sold off the vario's. If you consider doing something like this, it's also a good idea to get the GSA rear rack as well as I found that when you open the the alloy panniers on the GS, the lids can catch the standard GS rear rack. This is no big-deal, but with the GSA rear rack there is no problem at all.

Thanks for your help.

I am now looking for a set of BMW alloy panniers
