I would also like to thank Mr Eassom for his invaluable guide to fitting these bars (the wife bought me some for Christmas).
I was lucky, mine fitted with no struggle at all.

Thankyou Simon.

Glad they helped, guys. It does seem that getting a pair that fit straight out of the box is a matter of luck. My right side bars were at least an inch out of alignment both vertically and horizontally with the rear gearbox bolt. :)
Ralphy . . . it's certainly preferable removing the tank as you did, but without quick-release connectors it's a not as straight-forward.
Simon
My bars didn't line up either! The solution was to 'swap' two of the spacers - which helped, plus a bit of brute force.
As you say, tank removal not necessary - but it is a doddle to take off with the quick release connectors. Word of advice to others though; its far better to move/remove the tank with it near empty; quite heavy & cumbersome if full - I can testify to this!
Doh........

Smashing instructions for fitting the bars. Saved me no end of grief.

Cheers Craig.

Fitted my H & B bars today! Bought 'em off Mike Belch (brand new) and fitted them in less than 1 1/2 hours. Had to bend them with tyre levers to fit the rear holes, but managed the job on my own. Top tip; support both wheels and very little will move.
Thanks to Simon's advice, no problems encountered. Now ready to drop the bike with confidence!!

Hepco & Beckers certainly help.. imagine what this would of looked like without them :p

Ah!
See what you mean.
I am hoping the bars will save my cylinder heads from a low speed drop, rather than a contact from a lane swapping bint who should only be out with the help of a labrador!

Totaly agree Gary, thats why I fitted mine.
The H&B ones seem to be the only ones that don't mount under the motor i.e on the rubber bash plate mounts. If you drop it and shear the rubbers and then have the missfortune of dropping it again before you have chance to replace them they are worse than useless. IMHO H&B's rule :)

more crash bars

Hi people, SORRY if I have missed the answer to my question!
But has anyone fitted h&b crash bars to an Advedture fitted with a 31Ltr tank? Because when I phoned to order a set I was told they would not fit with the large tank,Is she correct or not?

Bloody hope they do - never got a query when I ordered them from Motobins.....being fitted the week after next.

MikeO:)

Sorry for news I hope she is wrong!! But I can fwd the email I have if you are in any doubt.

Just had a look at Simon Eassom's picture of his bike with H&Bs fitted (attached, forgive my copyright infringement, Simon :D). Can't see why it would be a problem. The 31 litre tank is basically similar to the std tank, but with wider 'lobes'. The Touratech/Acerbis 41 litre tank, however, is quite a different shape and comes much closer to the cylinder head - perhaps that's what they were getting confused with.....

One possible explanation is that H&B bars come as an "upper" and "lower" kit. The "upper" kit of tank and headlight bars won't fit the Adventure. The "lower" engine bars kit will. And it also fits the 41 litre Touratech tank but it's a tight fit and there's a possibility of long-term wear on the tank.

Thank's mikeo & Simon for your responce,As I susspected the lady must be wrong .I'll phone again and try to order them next week,
regards
graham

And thanks for the fitting instructions.
The bars arrived monday and I fitted them tonight (tues) it took 40 min. I only went in the gararge to cut a bit of skirting board but the bars won!!!
I'll cut the wood tomorrow or test the bike or go to the pub
Thanks again

A big thank you to Simon for his accurate and most helpful instructions. My mate and I followed them to the latter and the whole process was completed in less than 1 Hour. One query though, will they need to be removed at all for the 600 mile service? Thanks again Simon
