1150 gs engine bars fixing kit?

Just aquired some H&B bars off ebay but with no nuts, bolts &spacers etc.
Does anyone know where I can get hold of a fixing kit or will I be able to purchase these individually from the DIY store?

Beware of the "full cage" extras

I have the same bars, but also the extra pieces fitted over the top of the heads, all the way along the tank perimeter and right up to and surrounding the headlight!... I can't imagine what the previous owner thought he was going to do with the bike, but he certainly didn't take it anywhere dirty!...

The biggest Problem is.... You lose a fair chunk of forward adjustment on the cowl/screen because it gets in the way!!!:blast

Save your money by simply not bothering with crash bars.

I bought Hepco and Becker bars for my 1150 a couple of months ago and to be honest, I thought the fitting was pretty easy.

This Saturday, I performed a spectacular high-side crash and the crash bars just bent straight inwards allowing the right side rocker cover to get scraped to f**k! £200 wasted on H&B crap.

Crash bars

Get a pair of Steppers head gaurds all you need.

Nothing's going to give too much protection from a decent high-side, but if the bars hadn't taken some of the initial impact, the damage could have been much worse.

Just think of them as a "crumple zone" for bikes :)

Should've spent the £200 on learning to ride:thumb
:D

Crash bars

I had a high speed prang with adventure bars fiitted to my 1150, the only bent very slightly but caused the bike to flip causing a lot of expensive damage. So if somthing gives it might be a better result. What would have happend if you had not got them fitted?.

Hahahahahahaha, that's brilliant! :thumb2

Did it take you long to think of? Could you pass on some of your awesome riding skills please? With over 20,000 posts on a bike forum you must be some kind of riding uber-God superhero rider.

I kneel in awe of your obvious superiority. :bow

No, really.....I'm not worthy.

Just remind us who claimed to have high sided an 1150 last weekend:augie
:P

It takes alot of skill and experience to high side a quarter tonne of motorbike young man. If you need any advice just get in touch. ;-)

:D
I'm still in two minds regarding crash bars even after using H&B on an 1150 for 10 years then the past 2 or 3 just using a pair of Steptoe's head guards.

One thing I have seen on a couple of occasions though, is bikes with crash bars can flip causing even more damage, on the other hand a simple drop on or off road causes little or no damage:nenau

Hmmm, mine went down on both sides, but I've escaped with some cosmetic scuffing to the crash bars and right side rocker cover. Oh and the right side rear indicator lens is smashed, the bulb survived uninjured.
To be fair to H&C, the bars probably did save quite a bit of other damage. The crash was at about 20mph as I pulled away from some lights and the rear end slipped away on some highly camouflaged sand/gravel. :nenau
My f**king ribs are crippling me, but I will heal for free....the bike has cost me £11.70 for a new indicator lens. :D

I high-sided a fully faired, K******i 750 tripple at between 20 and 30 mph once and it flipped twice because when it landed it was already rotating quite quickly and even with the original 1970s killer Bridgestones, the tyre sidewalls gripped and it flipped it again, so don't be so eager to blame the bars mate.... Besides... They only protrude about 1 1/2" from the heads, so I doubt they had much influence on the bike's trajectory. You were just unlucky.

I wasn't blaming the bars for flipping the bike mate....I managed that all by myself :blast:D I was more pissed off with them because they folded like an Italian infantry regiment (instantly) and allowed the rocker cover to get knackered.

I've removed the bars now and I'm in the process of bending them back into shape and refurbishing them to go on eBay.

One thing I did notice with the Hepco and Becker bars is that they have rubbed away quite significantly at the petrol tank just above where the bars attach to the oil cooler mount at the top of the frame. I reckon if they'd been allowed to carry on like that, it'd have cost me a new tank as well! Something to look out for all you riders with H&B bars!

I'd better check that!.... Cheers....if they wear noticeably, they may develop stress fractures if you strap things to them like I do!.....

The last thing I need is an MOT fail for having an insecurely fitted item
