Fitting Remus Headers and your Insurance Cover

Remus headers and exhaust are both factory fitted options for BMW bikes (ask Wapping, both his GS's were supplied that way).

BMW Motorad Insurance claims to insure all BMW approved extras (panniers etc) as part of their standard policy (or did last year when I renewed with them). I would take them to task if I were you.

If we are dick waving about insurance quotes: £79.99 fully comp including commuting. Just been sent through unsolicited by The Bike Insurer.

2004 GS, 9+ years NCB

Dealer fit options, yes. Factory fit options, no.

They are talking tosh. I had 1200GSA with Remus headers and Akro can insured with BMW Insurance no problem. Bike got nicked in Feb and they paid out for bike + accessories no problem.

Ring back and insist they talk to the underwriter (was NIG, now Allianz). My policy was with BMW/NIG but the BMW/Allianz policy is (i am told) identical.

I had the same problem as you, I bought my GSA with the Remus headers. I told BMW Insurance and they went to their underwriters, and they covered it. They said they would replace with stock if in an accident but the Remus headers are half the price anyway ! I would get back to them about this.

FWIW as all circumstances are different, I have a 2009 GSA, full system and power commander, Carole Nash - £250, H and R £105 with all equipment declared. Was a no brainer for me.

He isn't talking tosh

I insured this year with Carole Nash (march 2011) and was getting all my extras covered, paniers, satnav, hugger, horn, light guard ect ect ect total came to like £3500 extras on the bike which they add onto the value of the bike to get you a quote... and it didn't actually make a difference to the premium which I was surprised.

She then asked me if I had fitted a none standard exhaust system, which I said no, as I hadn't (still using standard) I asked why and she said they do not provide cover for "performance enhancements" no more

So i think its the probably a new thing to refuse claims.. who knows.. I would double check with your insurance if you have none standard exhausts fitted  just to be safe

Thanks

Will keep trying. Only reason I was thinking of changing was Carole Nash came in at £420.00 for renewal this year, a jump from £282.00 last year. Thought I would start doing some checks with other companies.

Go compare, moneY supermarket, meerkat. Find cheapest with them first, then see if usual suspects can beat it. My experience is they can't.

Cant believe what some of you have either paid for, or have been quoted for insurance. Try MCN compare. Just bought a 2007 Adventure with Vario luggage. 6 years protected NCB - £117 for the year, including pillion cover.:bounce1

accelerater module (insurance)

How about has any one declared their module to their insurance as it only acts as a kind of power commander ,even out the fuel and no power gain at all,but like exhausts its an extra device non oe fitment and is it even recognised within the insurance groups ,anyone know :nenau
