Hi had a strange one today after 3000m around Europe today on the way home while queuing for a long time at the channel tunnel the red triangle came on and I saw the oil symbol flash bliped throttle oil symbol went out but on tick over had red triangle and oil can showing
Pulled over checked oil leval its ok on sight glass went to restart bike and turned over slower but fired up.
200 miles home bike is fine but when started to put in garage battery symbol stayed on dash for a few seconds.
The battery is 2 weeks old and supplied by Motorad
Is this something of nothing over to you gents
Bike is a 2012 twin cam 38k full service history

How hot did the bike get?

At the Calais tunnel terminal on Sunday lunchtime it was heaving with vehicles and a very hot day, I just pushed my bike in the queues to avoid it overheating or repeatedly starting from hot (which is sluggish and which drains the battery.)

It also hammers the already hot starter motor and is s quick way to needing a new one.

OP’s problem sounds like over heating. It’s air cooled so has no way to cope when stuck in traffic.

Also check the charging voltage. If it’s high the battery will suffer.

I have had similar on a very hot engine - bars on the oil temp gauge just reaching the top of the normal range. Tickover goes all to pot, it stalls easily - no go at normal pull away revs, so rev it harder and makes everything even hotter still - and then really struggles to restart, oil light flickers when it does tickover. If I can I get out the slow traffic and let it cool for a while.

Battery symbol staying on a few seconds.... if it was just 3-5 seconds then I would say normal, just indicating the battery is discharged a bit from standing and taking a charge from the alternator. Put a voltmeter on it - the battery - and tell us the voltage with the engine off and then with the engine running.

Thanks for reply to answer a few questions
Temp gauge on bike was above the middle
Battery symbol 3 to 5 seconds about right but put meter over and 13 v at tick over rising to 14.5 v so that seems ok
I am not new to gs bikes I have an 06 single cam done 50k on thus one and this has never happened even in 30 plus degrees in South of Spain.also the old girl spins over on start up like a good in hot very hot or cold
Are the issues I am having with new twin cam motor normal looking at bike history its had a starter motor strip and clean and a new oil sensor fitted by bath road.

I was there on Sunday at lunchtime as well, very hot, I ended up pushing my bike through the customs checks as well as my bike was getting too hot, my mates missus had trouble with her tuono, kept stopping and start ing the engine and the battery couldn't cope and wouldn't start it as we were going through. Their breakdown came out and jump started it and it was fine after that,

As its a new battery install have you checked the terminals are tight as a high resistance with give a variable voltage and quirky electronic feedback?

I had the same on my 1200RT when caught in slow moving traffic - the temp gauge would be just over the half way mark, the light would flicker initially (solid if left for much longer) until i got moving.

Police bikes have an oil cooler fan for the times when their bikes are idling/slow moving for extended periods.

Mine rattled more at idle as the oil light started to flicker.
