flat batteries

Hi All,
I have a problem that I need help with please.
My 2016 GSA is on a optimate whilst in the garage, but once away anywhere, within 3 days of not running, the battery is so flat it wont even light up the dash.
No alarm or any other electrical gismos.
The battery is a BMW £150 worth.
Has anyone come across this b4?
If so what was it?

How old is the current battery and has it been tested ?

Have you checked the charging rate ?

BMW don't make batteries for one thing.

Sounds like you have a parasitic drain somewhere or a dead battery. Anything plugged into the port near the dash or directly connected to the battery?

I understand that BMW dont make batteries, but they supplied it to me.
There is a camera feed plugged in to the dash port but not connected to anything on the other end as I take the camera off when not riding.
Optimate lead to the battery and a heated fleece lead, but that is not used except in the winter.
Thats all.

Again gave you checked the charging rate , you can have the best battery in the world but if the bike is not charging correctly it will go flat

Simple thing to try. Disconnect the battery next time you are stopping for 3 days. Will it start after reconnecting? JJH

That's it. Simply age. Your battery has done well, if its a 2016. Buy a new one and get another six years of trouble free electricity !

FYI - BMW’s battery is not £150.
Call Bowkers and speak to Gavin.

As suggested above, try disconnecting the earth lead next time your away from the charger, and see if it starts when you reconnect, but i suspect it will be your battery. Fit a Motobatt at about £70 and you will be good again.

+1 for the motobatt replacement if yours turns out to be knackered, cured my bike not starting blues

Are you certain that the battery feed to the camera is just a copper cable? or does it have a voltage regulator inside, say 12V down to 5V inside it? If it does then any decoupling capacitor could be fooling the CANBUS into thinking a voltage source is present as the bike is switched off - this will keep the bike's electronics from completely shutting down and will lead to a continuous small current drain. Easy to test, remove the 'feed' cable and see if the battery still goes flat.

It's a DIN to USB adapter connected to the dash port? If so, unplug it completely as sometime it leaves the port active even though it's supposed to turn off.

Is the heated fleece lead just a dumb cable or does it have any electronics in it.

Either way, you are talking about a 6 year old battery so hardly surprising it's failed

BMW's battery is £150 in rural France, which is where the last one went wrong and had to be replaced.
I dont think Gavin could help there.
