The problem with the EES system is not encountered by a single individual, arriving at a quiet time of day at a small airport or entry point.
Imagine instead arriving at a capital city’s large hub airport, where you might have two or three large jets arriving simultaneously, with the majority of the passengers being non-EU citizens. Then compound the problem, when the majority of the passengers do not speak the one truly international language, English.
Let’s take one wide bodied jet from China, holding say 350 passengers. Let’s say there are 10 entry booths, where passports are checked. That is 35 passengers queuing for each booth. If each check takes “Just five minutes, mate” that is a minimum of 175 minutes to queue. Viewed another way, 175 minutes is just short of three hours.
OK halve the time. That is an hour and a half.
That is just to clear the China flight, which you have had the misfortune to arrive behind. Now let’s assume that you are not lucky enough to be at the front of your own flight’s disembarkation. Add in, oooh, let’s say 10 extra in front of you. That’s 50 minutes more or 25 if you are lucky.
Meanwhile, the goat fucker from Greece and his kiddy fiddling brother (both with their EU passports) are through and gone.

For all you remoaners, it's worth remembering that as the UK never signed up to Schengen, it's highly unlikely that Brexit has amde any difference to this current situation.

Except you can stay there as long as you like, go there as often as you like, live there, work there, use EU lanes .......etc.

Stamping of passports and EES only applies to "third" nations. We had freedom of movement so no Schengen counting for 90 in 180 for us until we left the EU.
Once again, your statement makes no sense whatsoever in understanding the root cause of the current border delays due to EES implementation.

On the time-limited stay, of course, but as a non-Schengen country even when in the EU it is highly likely that we would still have been treated as a "third" nation and therefore EES and stamping of passports (or electronic equivalent) would still have applied.
for what purpose? The stamps/EES is to keep track of days in the EU/Schengen. With freedom of movement, who was counting the days?
One oddity on departure from Stockholm today, the passport check had no evidence of me arriving in Sweden on Tuesday evening. I was obliged to show them my boarding card from the flight from Heathrow to Arlanda from the day before.

It’s somewhat ironic that UK plc allows EU citizens that hold a digital passport to use the ‘UK digital passport’ gates, but the same courtesy is not extended to UK digital passport holders when entering the EU. No doubt it’s a French ploy.
This will maybe change when the app is up and running.
That said, I think I possibly missed a trick coming into Stockholm from London, with a registered UK digital passport held on the new app. I have an odd feeling that I could have used the EU passport holders’ channel. I am back in Stockholm next month, so I’ll find out.

Arrived at Verona the other day, straight through in a minute or so. The new machine wasn’t working, so it was simply placing my passport on the machine and FC, then passport stamp. Total time inc queuing was appx 4 minutes. On departure to the UK, the fingerprint machine took 30 seconds, no queues, ditto passport stamp at the control. Even Stansted was appx 5 mins to get through passport control.
In all honesty, the chance of an EU wide software and hardware entry and exit and tracking system working, with 27 or whatever different in-country systems, implemented by an bunch of contractors no doubt all related to people in the EU commission is pretty limited
