FOR ALL EES STUFF, QUESTIONS, CONCERNS, MOANS, JOYS AND ANYTHING ELSE

fingerprints will be taken at the port of entry from October, biometrics are already in the passport from your photo, no sane person goes without travel/medical insurance and they have always been able to ask for proof of return ticket and where you are staying. They can also ask if you have independent financial means.
In practice, they are only likely to take your dabs and scan your passport as these are the only mandatory checks. The rest of it is not new stuff, just regulations that have existed for "third countries" that applied to UK people since 2021. All hyped up as new stuff to generate clickbait whilst people are getting cross with the EU about fingerprints.
They won't give a toss about the other stuff they could ask if they could be arsed. A local hospital will police the insurance bit if you need stuff not covered by GHIC.
If you stay longer than 90 days then they will clobber you with a massive fine and a ban when you try to get your passport stamped on exit.

[mode @Wapping ] when turkeys vote for Christmas, there are consequences [/mode]
And yet with this new swop deal with immigrants; the French don't have to give us any details .
Nearly 70 yrs and never given my dabs only to be treated as a potential criminal for wanting to visit abroad; surely the HR sharks are all over this. I've been all over Europe in my time much like yourself; and apart from showing my passport at the docks or airport in and out i have never been asked for my documents; medical insurance; proof of where i'am going; or how much i have in my wallet; oh ; and breakdown insurance ; and there's been plenty of times i've been without them; when i'am eventually fit enough to ride again it will be dodging around Britain ; having had donkeys years of ragging the bike all over Europe to race circuits and getting away with it i will be happy if i can just ride again to be honest. Thanks for the reply Wessie; :beerjug:

The Americans have been using fingerprint scanning technology on entry / exit to their shores for years. It did nothing to stop those 10’s of thousands swimming across the Rio Grande. I doubt very much if it will deter those seeking illegal entry to our shores or indeed, the EU itself. It was the illegal entry that those who voted for Brexit as an instant panacea and permanent fix of a huge international problem, failed to comprehend or wilfully ignored. We no more ‘Took back control of our borders’, than we took up communal basket weaving.

Still being in the EU would'nt have done much for this problem either; one way or another tge EU was always going to make sure there was plenty of invaders for us. In some ways perhaps we should have told France to fuck off in 1939 and taken our chance with their new goverment ; they may have been easier and more up front to deal with;; i know i know; sliding doors moment; just a bit of bollox :D

Now here's a thought? If at some future point, there's a referendum in NI and the vote goes in favour of a a single Irish state which is an EU member, then what happens to the current arrangements between these islands? These are based on the 1922 treaty and subsequent agreements re a common travel area etc.

I don't want to tread on sensitive Irish corns but it's an interesting question?

Brexit, the gift that keeps on giving…

Does anyone know what the ferry route between Plymouth and Santander will be doing for this, and when?

The most important bit for me, is will it be carried out in the UK or Spain, as I can see a big delay in getting onto the road if it's in Spain? I'm planning on getting to Burgos on the 6th April 2026.

Any checks will be in Spain. Eurostar, Dover ferries and Channel Tunnel are the only places in the UK with EU border checks by French staff. The passenger volume makes this viable, especially as any rejects remain in the UK. With just 2 sailings a week, it is not viable for the Spanish to have staff and IT in Plymouth. Likewise for sailings to Roscoff and Rosslare from Plymouth.

The current information is that all EU points of entry should be operational by 10 April 2026

Whether Santander is operational by 6 April is anyone's guess. The only good thing is that they have spent some dosh on improving things at Santander with speedier processing on my 2024 & 2025 trips.

Even with EES you will arrive mid afternoon and have plenty of time to get to Burgos as it is only 2.5 hrs down the lovely N623. Less by motorway.

Chanel Tunnel are ready for ETIAS. At Folkstone they build a massive covered reception area. In the link you have the details. I assume is the same at the ports. Theoretically should take less than 5 minutes depending how people can follow instruction. My 80 year old mother struggled with a similar set up abroad but managed.

If you fly in no action is needed until 2026. Online application and an app on the phone has to be completed.

Minor nitpick. EES & ETIAS are different things. Currently EES (recording entry/exit) is being rolled out and will be complete everywhere in the EU by April 2026. ETIAS (prior approval of the 90 days in 180 visa-less travel) starts later on in 2026, is done in advance of travel and will apparently be done from home.

Correct, registration via the app. Landing in Romania on the 21st on a regional airport, I don't need a ETIAS because they are not ready, according to the email I received . The app doesn't have Romania down either.

Currently Spanish pass port checks are carried out in port of entry into Spain
The queues to get through them are already bad despite new check point infrastructure
Be a nice jolly for Spanish border force to be based at uk ports like the French !

Has anyone had experience of the new EES system when crossing to and from France on the Tunnel? Painless or painful?

Not operational until 2026according to some reports
Maybe for coach passengers but not cars seems a bit of beta testing going on
