Fork Stanchion Issue... some perspective?

Actually, Engineer is one of the most rational people on this forum !

2017 gsa, 3 k miles. Mainly 2 up scratching on B roads. Neither myself nor the wife are small people and the witnesses mark on the stantions show that I use the full travel available and the bike has bottomed out with a thud on quite a few occasions.
No gap and all is good.

Another perspective - R1200RT's LC have exactly the same design ( press fit with crimps) - I looked at one yesterday. I'm not aware of mass recall's etc and failures of RT's unless someone knows otherwise ? :nenau

Because the problem has only occurred with extreme off-road use on just a few bikes.

But that's not so. Did you not read Roamer's post earlier?

How many road only use bikes have been affected?
How many hard use off-road bikes have been effected?
And what were the exact use conditions that produced the 'problem'.

Numbers of bikes and details with corroborating evidence please?

That's a completely unrealistic request as I'm sure you know, but the fact that even one bike has developed the problem with only moderate on road use should be enough, together with the scale and expense of BMW's response, to convince anybody that there is an issue with the design and/or construction of this part.

BMW obviously fear that many more bikes will eventually suffer this problem without the program of remedial action they have now launched. If they believed that only a few bikes exposed to extreme off-road incidents have or will develop the problem, then I would not have expected the scale of the response, albeit it seems to have taken BMW a long time to come to this conclusion. Possibly it has taken them some time to negotiate a cost contribution from the fork suppliers.

No they're fine ... it was the rear shocks that were collapsing on those ... :D

Maybe it's the longer travel of the GS forks that is causing the issue, as presumably that would create a greater range of movement at the top of the fork compared with the RT.

The facts i have posted are as stated,
I dont give a toss whether anyone believes me,
bmw are providing something i consider suitable, my bike is a keeper regardless,
The forks are an issue for the manufacturer to do a campaign on virtually all wc gs model bikes,
