Fork Stanchion recall?

Probably an alloy steel as high carbon steel although strong is very difficult to weld, bend, etc and when heat treated it becomes hard and brittle.
There will be a prefix before Id number denoting grades like H for hardness.
(Or maybe it's Krupp impregnable steel,, only joking)

The R1200 GS, on sale in its current guise since early 2013, is not just Britain’s most popular bike, but the best selling BMW worldwide: last year BMW sold over 25,000 GSs, nearly 20% of their overall sales, and the GS Adventure added another 21,000. Total sales of all affected bikes stands at around 168,500 units.

Thinking about it and to be fair to BM how much build strength do you design into forks/frame. I built a fish washer to handle bulk bins of whole fish I triangulated all the frame box sections doubled the hydraulic ram capacity. But, I found some of my tig welds fractured after a shift. I re-welding them and spent some time looking what went wrong then one guy instead of a straight tip toggled the ram joystick back and forth to shake the fish out of the bin this shaking did the damage that I hadn't foreseen. So my carefull so called design failed because this guy used it to shake the tubs not just a straight tip as I had presumed. But there again I didn't have complex cad tech to design out all possibilities.

But then there will be the corrosion fixes to be carried out on the fix.... with a corrosion warranty just done on my engine and drive shaft i could end up riding triggers broom into retirement.... no wonder they are so expensive!

My GS was booked into Lind BMW tomorrow, but they have just called to cancel the booking. BMW are now asking dealers to fit a 'rubber bush in the shock absorber', and they have not yet received the relevant part(s).

Fit a rubber bush 'as well as' or 'instead of' fork stanchion collar?

This is starting to sound a bit Heath Robinson now
Bmw should totally redesign the forks not f**k about as I can accept one recall not multiple ones for the same fault
