Apparently 13 of the current F1 drivers live here. I mostly certainly wouldn’t want to live here if I had that much money.

Grasse today, it was bloody hot there away from the coast. Perfume museum, a couple of beers and now back in Nice. Shit, shower and a shave then out for dinner.
A nice town. You should try it in August!
I was last there over 14 years ago. I had ridden the Route Napoleon down to meet my wife, daughter, son in law and grandchildren for a week (it might have been two) in Mandelieu la Napoule before going to Chamonix for a few days visiting my lad. It was hot then too. August must be very warm.
Juan-les-Pins today, lovely place with great sandy beaches. Again it’s very warm.
Thanks for taking the time to share the pictures etc. It all shows that nobody HAS to go by motorcycle, in order to have a good time.
When you are back, could you do watchers of the thread (who might want to do something similar themselves) a favour, to give basic clues as to how you arranged it, please. Did you book a series of train tickets in advance (if so, how) or just take potluck at the station?

We arrived at the Airport station for Lyon. The Rhone express is a tram into Lyon from the Airport it took around 25 minutes followed by the metro. This brought us to within a 3 minute walk to the hotel. Checked in then out for a beer and dinner. There’s a great beer hall very near our hotel. Biere Georges. 
Some interesting beers here. For dinner I had the belly pork, frankfurter and smoked sausage with sauerkraut . Lovely.
Today is a look around Lyon. We only have one full day here as we’re heading off to Chamonix tomorrow.
Right breakfast then let’s go.

I have just used Trainline for all the trains and left the hotel bookings to my wife. So far the only delay was the Leeds to London train.

Understood....but I once had to claim a 'delay repay' refund and it would have been much easier had I used LNER's website rather than Trainline....just a thought...
Interesting day around Lyon. French protesters trying to cock up everyone's day. Luckily we didn’t get caught up in their shite.
Plenty of interesting bikes parked up. I’m in no way a god botherer but they build some fantastic buildings. This one is high on a hill overlooking the city.
Shit, shave and a shampoo before going to the beer hall again for dinner then a Jazz club for some piano music.

Well we landed in Chamonix dead on time. 30°C . Checked in and arranged to meet our son, daughter law and grandson at his bar. Big Mountain Basecamp. A great evening

Low tax or not I couldn’t live in such an overcrowded place. I guess city types would be ok but not for me. I like space and scenery. There must be nice places that are low tax.

Maybe, but not always convenient for F1 drivers to do their day job. No work, no pay…. Much like all of us.
I doubt they actually live there for many days per year.
Supposedly they should be there for 183 days per year to be a tax resident but there are workarounds in terms of owning property, investments etc. Plus of course, Monaco is in Schengen so there is no record if they drive their Ferrari to their home in the Alps or a private airfield in France to fly to another Schengen country.
Not with the length of the current F1 calendar, they won’t.
Just couple of pictures around Chamonix. Some of you May remember the Rose Pont as the Terrace, it changed hands around a year or two back and many millions were spent transforming it into the Rose Pont. We’ve had a few days visiting son and family. We’ve been to Chamonix many times now so don’t really do touristy stuff anymore. Moving on back to Paris in the morning. A couple of nights in Paris and then the journey back to Yorkshire.
Hopefully the weather back home will be ok to get a ride or two in before going back to work on 1st October.
