Just checking to see if there are any particular wrinkles to this. One source says that they can be replaced without removing the calipers? It's an ABS model.

Maybe (if I understood what you mean by removing the calipers)... but removing the calipers is an easy job (it is a two large bolts removal job). I guess you would struggle far more to do the job with the calipers on.

then the answer is yes.

First remove the small wire clip that stops the fixing pin sliding out and then use a torx driver to unscrew the pin itself.

The pads should then just lift out but you may have to push them against the pistons if there is any disc wear to get them past the edge.

They can be stiff from accumulated salt and road dirt.
 
I would not change the pads without cleaning the calipers. Pushing the pistons back in their bores with the chance of forcing all the crud past the dust seals!

It's one of those jobs that seems difficult if you've not done it before, but once you have, then you'll find yourself cleaning them once a year as preventative maintenance.
