Fuck Garmin!

We’re all different , some of us very , but I gave up with Basecamp years ago as it was clunky and way out of date . MRA is much more intuitive . I do the planning on my 13” iPad and it automatically syncs with other devices such as iPhones .
The good thing is you can adjust the route during a coffee break etc on the fly . Try doing that on your 2610/XT etc .
Haven’t used a laptop for planning in many years . Haven’t used a laptop at all actually as no need for one .
Seems pointless using MRA to send files to a £350 Garmin device when you can just have your phone mirrored on a £70 Aoocci.
It’s 2026, not 1992
It is good, I’ve been doing the same too. But horses for courses. A lot of my riding has been tracks and trails and MRA doesn’t do that well, nor, as has been discussed at length, does it work well with waypoints.

For road riding it’s been very good, but it still needs a decent device to run it, and the offline capability is relatively recent.

For my 2018 v6 has never blink an eyelid and carries on as strong as ever and base camp i think is so easy to use even if it is clunky. A small piece of software means I can send it wherever I want in the format I want and I’ve just put my 4 button cradle on my little 450 GS and everything works seamlessly yet again. Why should I bother looking for anything else while this does exactly what I need to do?

Having said that, it’s actually pretty easy to change a route or even make a route on the fly on a Montana or XT.

I’m going to use OsmAnd app for TET

Yes, it’s pretty good. I think it’s the easiest to use of the off roady type apps.
The TET routes download as one massive track, end to end and with the branch routes also showing.

I’ve always found it helps to split the track into more of less day length routes. Basecamp is pretty good for that 😂.

Seriously though this is where it makes sense. Navigate the track with OSmand or Locus then when you are done for the day use google maps to route to your digs,

And that is definitely the beauty of a phone or tablet.

Because basecamp is a far better option for planning routes. Partly because it’s free. No subscription fees. Also basecamp sends the route directly to the st nav.
Does it not have to be physically connected to your computer for this?

In which case it is about as much us as a mobile phone that needs a BT Landline.

What about if you want to use a planning app that wasn’t last updated in 1992 ?
If I need to plan some route, I do so directly ON the unit. Simples. It has never let me down whereas mapping data has as it is inevitably flawed.

Yes on my bike and in a plane, on a boat, in my 4x4, anywhere even on a camel but that's a different story!
It has never been a problem but then, I know how to use my units.

The battery on my XT was so crap that it had to be powered to work .

I’ve a Montana that I use on a DR650 (with a powered mount) and it works fine, even with OS maps!

Why? The laptop s quite small and fits easily into a pannier. Just how anyone can plot a route on a phone screen I really don’t know. One cannot see anything around one’s immediate vicinity.
