Two questions please........

1. Just had the fuel tank off my 07 GSA to route the extra power cable through to the front of the bike and noticed when putting the fuel filler cap back on that the screws holding it down clicked and then went loose (as though the thread stripped). All of the screws did it - I wasn't trying to tighten them excessively. I took the cap back out and checked the screw threads and the threads on the tank (I fitted each screw onto the bike without the cap) and they all seem fine.

So I just tightened it back again, but a bit less. All of the screws did it - is this normal?? I obviously didn't screw them in tight enough as with a full tank some fuel leaked out when I braked, so I tightened them a bit more very carefully. My question is has anyone else noticed this?

2. Living in the US my bike had the charcoal cannister that I subsequently removed (capping off the vacuum point on the throttle body). I now have two drain tubes that are connected to the top right hand side of the fuel tank (I guess it is part of the fuel pump) and run down the left side of the bike. I have on occasion seen water sitting in the rim of the fuel filler cap but can't see an obvious way that the water can drain via either of the two tubes that are connected to the tank. My question is should there be another tube? (I looked when I had the tank off but could not see another connection under the tank) Or is their some sort of solenoid valve that allows the water to be removed with the motor is running?

Your thoughts please folks.............

Just replaced my plastics and noticed the same. Screws clicking as though they had strippied. Nothing to worry about it is just the screws binding on the fuel filler. Just put a bit of pressure on each screw as you tighten it, it will then locate properly. Don't know about the other question.

After the 'click' can I ask how much further you turned the screws?

Cheers

Hi Jon

I too have noticed water sitting around the rim of the filler that doesn't seem to drain away. There is a drain hole there and I assumed it was blocked. It's just another thing to add to the long list of 'features' that I will get sorted under warranty. We pay a lot for our warranty so I'm using it as much as I can.

Cheers

Al

On the 1100, 2 x 1150 and 2 x 1200 GS plus 1100 and 1150 R's that I've owned I've been convinced that none of the water drains were blocked, until I blew (gently ;) ) from the bottom of the tube and all was clear :)

Now, every now and then I just spray some WD40 or equivalent down the hole to keep me happy.

I too noticed on earlier GSs water sitting there - now I have a US bike I just wondered if there was something I had done wrong by removing the charcoal cannister. Guess I'll stick with the WD40 job.

Used to be so much easier on the old air heads as their was a tube directly connected up underneath the tank for venting.........aahhhh the good old days:rob
