Hi guys, hope someone can help.
I'm in Northern France at the minute with the mrs and have been for a few days on our 04 r1200GS
Yesterday we noticed a fuel leak in the bike while it is on it
etepehut.jpg
s side stand immediately after turning the bike off and when starting it. But no leak when it is upright.
The leak is coming from the front if the bike and running down the inside of the left cowling from what I can see.
Inside the cowling is a black object with slits which looks like it is holding some fuel.
I have attached a pic of the black item from the top by the fork yoke.
Any advise would be useful

That's the fuel pump cover you need to remove side panel to look at it could be a perished hose, bad connector or o ring gone ?

It is't the pump just O rings on the fittings mine was done last week

Damn, remember getting something about that a month back or so. You recon I could take it to a dealer over for the rascal???

It was doing it in a quarter tank so regardless of fuel level it's spitting it out!!

It's got to be worth a try if you are near enough to one

The cover has a big O ring underneath. But that unlikely to wet the top where pipes & fuel pump controller sit.

Also check filler cap has anyone been at it with a hex key and loosened it.

If you can pinpoint the leak some well chewed gum wrapped around and left to harden may suffice as short term fix ?

It's all sorted. Popped into Boxer Passion in Nantes and within 10 minutes had diagnosed a blown O ring which is about the size of a ladies little finger.
20 minutes and €14.00 later were back on the road.
Viva La France...... Excellent customer service and cheap too :)
Now, must remember to book in for the recap when I get back......

Thanks for the advice and tips all, much appreciated!!!

It depends on the condition of your fuel pump. I've just had a new fuel pump fitted under the recall. The old one had hairline cracks all around at the top. The mechanic said it was the worst he'd seen.

When they did mine under warranty they had at least 2 which they changed

I was pleased to say the least that mine needed doing. My 70,000 mile 9 year old bike now has a shiny new fuel pump. Woohoo.
