So.... brought the bike out 8f a two month hibernation... start first time as usual... give it a run then put it away.... ive been charging it periodically over the last 3 month....

took it out for a run out on Wednesday past it was pishing down... but that doesnt bother me much... on way back from squires to Thirsk I noticed the fuel light was on dim... not dull brightness like im running out of fuel... but fuel tank half full.....

continued a run to thirsk then back to home... absolutely no problems .

had a look at the bike today... grease and cleaned a few non fuel related bits... turned on ignition to find the light was still on... tried to turn the bike over and battery was flat....

checked all batt connections and had a squeeze of the wiring loom and the back of the light itself but no change.

im a bit lost.. im thinkin possibly water ingress somewhere or a faulty fuel light switch if there is one... but I cant get my head around the flat battery bit..

would be grateful if anyone has a steer for me to look at..

grateful

I suspect that you may have a wiring fault in the wiring loom that runs from the instrument panel to the connector on the headstock (under the tank). Water can get in and cause corrosion.

However, there are things you can do to help narrow down the fault.

I'm assuming that the light is dim with the ignition on but bike not running.
If so disconnect the fuel tank connector to see if the light goes out.
If it does, you may have a faulty sender unit.
If the light stays on then disconnect the needle dial damping unit in the fuse box.
If the light goes out then that unit could be faulty.
If the light stays on then I would look to the instrument wiring loom.

Good luck

Hi Ian

Many thanks... light came on whilst riding...dim not full brightness... I did notice that the light got dimmer and slightly brighter then dimmer again.

I cleaned the connector withith a wee bit of emery cloth then a blast out with contact cleaner. Didnt do the disconnection with the ignition on....

will have another pop at it tomorrow

thanks again
