Fuel Pump Controller saga - GOOD NEWS!

I understand that UK dealers were notified of this last Thursday.
My GSA (January 2008) is in today to have its' 12,000 mile service and the FPC replaced.

what about us.

what about those of us who service our own bikes,we dont all use bmw dealers but should be included in recalls?

SBW just called my 57reg in aswell, quite pleased that it won't happen again, as will be getting the new improved black one.
Nowt wrong with a bit of optimism in life :D

How do these recalls happen, bought mine in Germany and imported it myself and don't use a dealer to service it

Good dealers check for recalls just prior to your service date and then do things during servicing, some dealers contact you directly from the bike registered as bought through them and needing the recall.

As such if you bought in Germany through a dealer and live at the same address you might get contacted by them.

Other than that you can always ask a dealer to check your VIN to see what might need doing - whether they would charge against an imported bike for doing any work is another question.

I have just checked my FPC prior to a trip in a couple of weeks. Considering the condition of the bike, it is a mint 06, I didn't expect to find much.

How wrong I was!

It was sat in a mini swimming pool and corroded badly, I really mean badly, all furred up and everything around it was fine.

So I rang my nearest BMW dealer where it was bought new by the guy I bought it off. Very friendly bloke who asked if he could have my details for his database, so no problem.

Yes we have plenty of FPC's in stock, thought they might, but yours will have to be paid for as there is no recall for your model. Bugger.

I did point out that I would want the old FPC back as I intended to take it up with BMW direct.
"We will have a chat when you get here on Monday", he says.

So fingers crossed.

Haggle hard with Customer Services and good luck.

Had my 2008 GS booked in for its 6k service today. Dealer had all the paperwork organised for the recall work; FPC changed out for a new unit & no charge to me as still under warranty. FPC recalls and repalcements must be costing BMW an absolute fortune.

I strongly suspect its not costing BMW a penny, they will take the FPC cost back to the original supplier and claim it from them

Fuel Pump controller replaced FOC

Received a letter today from BMW
Quality Enhancement-R1200GS & R1200 GS Adventure Motorcycles
Quote
We have identified possible water ingress into the Fuel Pump Module causing the component to fail and so on.This can effect bikes manufactured in production year 2007 and some early 2008 production

We would therefore request that you make an appointment with your prefered BMW dealer to have the Fuel Pump Module replaced free of charge with the new enhanced component.

Bikes booked in on Saturday at Southport Superbikes.
