Fuel Pump Controller saga - GOOD NEWS!

i wonder what the situation is for owners of 06 registered, year 07 build bikes with 07/08 pumps fitted? :eek

early indications are: no letter :(

Mine,1200GSA Nov 07, being replaced by BVM Stroud whilst in for service without asking, told me today when I dropped it off it was a recall.

Well I got my new FPC fitted today and BMW would not contribute a penny. The guy at service reception contacted them hoping they would offer some goodwill but no not a penny, nada.

I have the old unit and will contact BMW customer services to see if they may change their mind and at least contribute something.

I won't hold my breath.

If we could determine whether the part number fitted to the <=06 bikes is the same as the 07 we'd have 'em by the balls me thinks.

Let's find out and then start a tort if so. I want my money back. :augie

Just phoned my original dealer in Spain who confirmed my bike was on the list and told me to take it to any european BMW dealer for a free replacement , :clap So thats a result .

Why would they Phil?

The bike's out of warranty.
It hasn't failed, nor is your FPC on the list to be replaced
You chose to replace it yourself.

Sorry, but I can't see that it's unfair if they don't contribute to its replacement :nenau

Sorry, maybe I haven't explained it properly. I checked it and the unit was seriously corroded, I am surprised it was still working the state it was in. It would have been a bit stupid to continue using something until it failed when it was obviously knackered.

Yes it is out of warranty but the whole point is that this is an obvious design fault, the unit sits in water which is why it corrodes.

I was under the impression that BMW although not admitting outright that it is a fault, they are recalling bikes with units that are still working. Now why would they do that?

Just because the bike is out of warranty does not mean that they do not have obligations for faulty goods and bad design.

But thanks anyway for your sympathy. :D

Yes I paid someone to fit it and was happy to do so. I think my above post explains my point of view.

You know what they say about sarcasm. :D

Had my letter today

Nice that they've finally been grown up enough to address this issue :surrender, but it's what I'd call a 'Gordon Brown' letter.:stopbeing
Couldn't possibly admit to this or any other problem, let alone acknowledge that the customer might be right. Needs to be read to be believed!!

FPC Recall

Bike in for 6k service on Friday. Dealer checked and stated No Recall as my part number is the latest. (Mine went at 2k!)
Letter arrived from BumW today requesting that I make an appointment with my dealer to get the FPC replaced...:tears

Interestingly the letter says that the recall only affects 2007 and some early 2008 bikes - but mine was registered in Sept 2008.....:duno:duno
Dealer is 30 miles away.....:mooney

Received a letter today from BMW
Quality Enhancement-R1200GS & R1200 GS Adventure Motorcycles

We have identified possible water ingress into the Fuel Pump Module causing the component to fail and so on.This can effect bikes manufactured in production year 2007 and some early 2008 production

We would therefore request that you make an appointment with your prefered BMW dealer to have the Fuel Pump Module replaced free of charge with the new enhanced component.

Bikes booked in on Saturday at Southport Superbikes.

Me to only Isold the bike to Williams at Manchester in January?:augie when I bought my 2009 GSA of em? Still BMW no have a update.

Big D

I had the pump relay replaced on my O8 GS after it failed when it was only 2 or 3 months old. I've got a late 08 GSA now. I THINK it's got the new module fitted. I am led to believe that the new modules are black, the old ones grey. Can anyone confirm this?
Think I'll drop Williams a line just to make sure I've got the non-leaky one.

My Mar 07 R1200GS is booked in for FPC replacement and software update this Friday. That's a bit of a relief as bike is out of warranty and I have not taken out an extended warranty. Antenna ring was replaced FOC last year so hopefully that should be the main problems solved
