Fuel Pump Controller saga - GOOD NEWS!

They say they will only need it for 1/2 hour. Long enough for a coffee biccy and oggle at the stock then:thumb2

That's about as long as it took for mine at Mottorad Central West today. Went to loosen my H&B upper crash bars but the technician managed the change with them in situ. He said he could do them with his eyes shut now :D

Bahnstormers

Thankfully have not had a problem with mine as yet, although could still happen. Went in to Joe Duffy BMW, Dublin, this afternoon and mentioned that there appeared to be a Europe-wide recall on the GS and GSA for FPC and asked if they could check if mine, a 06 GSA, was on the list. I was informed that it was not a recall, but a service initiative :nenau and, surprisingly to me as mine has the grey unit, mine was not a problem bike. Not convinced but hope it lasts.

I am te 3rd owner of a 2007 1200 GSa so dont get BMW mail and recall info. Any chance you can scan the recall letter into this post or email me the scan ?

Gary

Got the letter from the previous owner and rang 08 number, booked into Pidcots, Nottingham, Monday.
Glad to be with BMW after a year with the Guzzi Stelvio.

Ride safe chaps, off to Sweden Tuesday.

Well done Tim. It's really amazing that you got BMW to do the right thing.

Good on you Tim! Well done.

BTW on my '07 R1200GS ADV I changed out my original grey coloured FPC before a major tour with the new black model (one I bought). The bike had problems on the tour and BMW replaced the new black model that had less than 7,000 km on it with another new black one. So......before you trade in your back-up FPC modules be advised that even the new black ones can fail.

....but now they are putting a magical silicon spray on them!;)

Well done to Tim for all of his hard work in getting them to sort it out....

Has anyone in Rep of Ireland had a FPC replaced under this process? I have a 06 GS from new and based on Warlocks post I am wondering what is the criteria e.g. frame numbers? If anyone knows could they put it up please?

No Recall On My 55 Plate

I phoned Woolaston Motorrad this morning, and was told there was no recall on my Dec 05 GS?

When I told him they were all to have the black powder coated model, he said it must allready have it - IT HASN'T !

Ring another dealer and see if they say the same thing. Just give them your VIN number and they can check the bike's history

There is something else apart from the black powder coat that identifies if you have a (BMW decided) OK version as my May 08 bike has the silver one and is not part of the recall either.

It's down to statistics I think. BMW will have analysed warranty work and identified batches of FPCs that have the highest failure rates and targeted the bike production runs that were built using them. It's all down to probabilities, just because you have a "silver" one doesn't mean it will fail, just that it's more likely to. (Conversely having a "black" one doesn't mean it will never fail either)......

Mine's April 2007. Replaced last week.
Call BMW ireland and give them your frame number. They'll let you know.

Whilst here in OZ

Mine is a late O7 and is in for a 20,000K service. Asked the service department to check out if BMW have any new info on the FPC. No recall or any new advice has been issued recently.
