Someone (can't remember who) said the same thing in conversation not very long ago.My controller was not corroded and was not wet or dirty. While I am not an electronics expert, I reckon there is a chance that the reason for at least some of the failures is overheating of the controller.
As the unit soaks up the excess 20% power it would have to release it as heat? If it cannot release the heat fast enough then bingo there goes another one.
Maybe they are meant to be water-cooled

Before anyone goes much further, somehow, someone needs to determine to exact cause of the failure; water, heat or just poor quality component?
