Talking to a pal of mine from a BMW dealership it would appear that the same Fuel Pump Controller is used on the 1200RT and does not appear to suffer from failure like the 1200GS. When opened up the ones that have failed all have shorted pcb's and witness marks that indicate the ingress of water as well as rot on the contacts on the top of the fuel pump on early GS's prior to the change of fpc gasket.

So.....maybe a liberal dowsing of ACF 50/Silicon Grease/Vaseline may well help!????

The RTs certainly seem less prone to the problem but it is not unknown (and, of course, there are far less of them to go wrong). Having said that I didn't have any fpc problems with my RT in 27k miles.
