I have just received a recall from BMW for my 1200GS 2007 saying that there is a fuel pump issue. Cracks in it. Does any one know anything about the fault or received such a recall. The dealer want to look at it and if cracked, replace it. I presume that if the pump is OK then there is little chance of it cracking in the future!

Had mine checked at the last service - 2010 GS and no problems. The fault is to do with the coupling on the fuel pump for one of the quick release clips The part fitted to the pump is moulded plastic and there have been instances where this has fatigued and cracked where peeps have rocked the connector to and fro whilst trying to uncouple it to take the tank off. It has also been known to crack through vibration over time.
Later models have metal reinforcement to prevent this.

(Heard it straight from the dealer's mouth)

Mine goes in next week to be looked at, oops I mean fixed.

Mne goes in for it's third visit next weekend. 1st to check if it needed fixing / replacing, 2nd to do the work (unsuccessful) and 3rd to get a new fuel tank under warranty as the fuel pump housing was corroded to the tank.

If there are no visible cracks, a metal casing of the female connector on the pump along with some sort of an adhesive/paste is placed with special tool basically bracing the connection point. Should do the trick.

Thanks for all the replies. Sot 1200`s comment was very useful as the dealer never gave me this info. Just said "it was not cracked". I will ask next time I am passing which is not often as I look after the bike myself.

Bike still with the dealer as "they needed to order more parts" - I suspect that they didn't get around to doing the job on Saturday.

had mine checked on the last service recently no issues.. it was a batch of duds supposedly, that caused the issue, mainly US bikes.

Mine was done last week, one replaced, the other one bodged up, I mean reinforced with something stuck over the flange cos it wasn't cracked.

mine went in to Oxford BMW last week on the same recall, 2007 model.
They check it but informed my they would like to replace the fuel pump complete rather than install the band, booked in again next week.

Same as mine (2006 GSA). Prepare for a new fuel tank if you have the same corrosion as mine.

Thanks, Good info - they did not mention anything other than that the pump was replaced - I will ask them.. seems ok since the work - mind you it was ok before.

I received the letter in august, I visited sbw who informed me they had sorted it at the last service in May!
Appears, the central database had not been updated.

Is there any way of checking if its been done on a bike already ? ie is there any where on Bm website to check?
I suspect if you telephoned a dealer and gave them your bikes registration number they should be able to tell you. Mine's being done tomorrow so if I remember I'll ask!

Mine goes in next week to Dick Lovetts in Bristol' along with a 50k service (ouch!) and fix leaking pressure sensor/valve - but I do get a nice 1200LC as my courtesy ride - the service can take as long as they need! :beerjug:

You were correct about last seven numbers of the vin number and yes its not been done yet but BM are staggering letters so the dealers can cope!
I look forward to finding a dealer within a reasonable distance.
