Anyone have any idea what size o-rings these are? Part number 3. I guessing these are the o-rings on the QDs that I've seen some people talking about.

My bike has been using more fuel lately so I thought I'd check this out as I've done everything else... no o-rings! I must have lost them whilst I last had the tank off. I have nothing to measure the outside diameter of the hose properly otherwise I'd do so. Thanks in advance!

If those O rings are missing you'd have a tank full of fuel over the floor everytime the fuel pump runs.

hmmm... I've been trying to figure out, for the past three months, why my bike is only getting around 220 miles until the fuel light comes on. It used to get around 250-260. I recently took a run to Newport and back and my consumption was up to the 300miles per tank range. SO my thought is that I must have a slow leak somewhere as If I take a week to use my tank full I don't get as far. For the past year it didn't seem to matter what kind of riding I was doing, I was always getting a full 250-260 miles before the light went on. Yes I look at the liters I'm putting in the bike to I know how much I have burnt for the miles I have ridden. I've just serviced the bike, balanced TB's etc and everything is spot on. I checked all the fitting on the fuel tank and there are no leaks and everything is tight. This morning I though I'd look at the QD connections and from whats I can see there are no big o-rings... I have the little ones on the end of part 2 but on the female adaptor all I can't see any o-ring that looks like part 3. I hate not being able to figure out what is wrong... The oil temp sensor seems fine as my RID display still does the same thing and take the same time to heat up the oil. I also recently had the bike plugged into the BMW tester thingy and it showed no faults. Would the lamba sensor fault show up on the computer thingy? I'll start trawling the threads again...

I was thinking it was a slow leak that would evaporate from the engine heat... there are no drip on the garage floor so its not pouring out... the bike is just using more fuel... and I wanted to go to pirtek to buy stuff!

Part 3 is the O ring that fits onto part 2.

It's just an exploded diagram for conveniance and simplicity, not for measuring enginering tolerances.:D

The "O" rings are made of Viton (special petrol proof material) i believe.
Cost about a quid each. Are Sherlocks handy for you?.
Have you checked the TPS voltage.Should be 0.370V ish.
How many miles on the air filter?.Clogged ones increase fuel consumption.

59p in sherlocks - part 009110.
OK you have to pay P+P but much cheaper than anywhere else.

BTW, BMW say that you are supposed to replace these O rings everytime you undo the coupling as the ring could be damaged reconnecting and thus having a fuel leak. Most times I do not worry but I got caught out once and noticed fuel had sprayed all over my leg on the way into work. Worth carrying a few spare on the bike as the O rings are so easy to nip when connecting and then it is all over.

That makes more sense... I hate it when these kinds of things have artistic license taken. So my o-rings are in place. I was also suprised to see that the little o-ring wasn't listed on the diagram. I was going to buy some then see if it would still connect... if it wouldn't then I'd know I already had them! Thanks for the help.

TPS spot on, just serviced so replaced the air filter less than 1000 miles ago.

Thanks for that. I'll order some as spares and change them anyway. I'm going to check the lambda sensor sometime when I get around to it. Could just be the ethanol in the winter fuel supply to keep it from freezing?!? I know we get that problem back in Canada. Maybe I just enjoy fetteling too much!

Are you less aerodynamic than you have been in the past?

I got a new pair of gloves....and took off my set of verns panniers in order to use some soft bags whilst riding through the city instead of touring around. I guess Verns panniers can help reduce fuel consumption! Buy a set of Worldbeaters and get 50+ more miles per 30 liters of fuel!

Apart from this... the bike hasn't felt better. Now I'm up to 30000miles the engine is running really smooth and the bike feels great. I'll just keep riding it as usual and see what happens in the next few months.

As the weather warms up your short run fuel consumption will improve as the engine gets up to running temp. more rapidly.

I find I use more fuel in the winter. Go straight from a side road on to a 50+mph road so engine does not get a chance to warm up before hand.

Also cold air is more dense so the engine has to use more fuel regardless of the temp the engine is at :)
