Are you calling all the 30 or so Tossers, who have tried this £27 device delusional? And they have all imagined the difference that it has made to the performance and drivability of their GS’s.

Bollox. So, what qualifies you to make this spurious comment? Have you tried one then? I don’t see your road test report on this forum.

Oh get off your soap box and smell the coffee. Yes there is a difference to be had, I am not saying there isnt but some of the reports are just ridiculous and doing nobody any favours. Is funny how nobody can show clear dyno results to show what they are feeling. All the dyno runs I have seem are marginal, definitely not what some are reporting.

Never been able to see any noticeable difference between 95 and 98RON on my 08 GSA, but just as important, if not, more important, is what else is in there. Good detergents, etc, etc, will add to and improve engine life as much as anything.

In my experience, that is what you pay for when you buy V Power or top brands (Esso, BP, Texeco, etc). I suspect it's not what you get if you go to Morrisions, Tesco and the like.

I sadly measure my consumption quite closely and the Ultimate/Vpower fuels pay for themselves in better economy as well as making the bike a little smoother on my 58 ADV. So to me it doesn't cost any more than regular fuel, in fact per mile is a little cheaper, plus it's better engine cleaning properties etc.......

My local Esso station, A3 coombe lane junction. Pump number 7.
It delivers faster than the others, so i don't waste time ( which equals money) standing at the pump.

And another thing, beware of the cleaning properties of certain higher priced fuels. It also cleans the bores and valve guides of oil

doesnt bore washing only occur if an engine is running on an over-rich fuel/air mixture? or is this happening on engines that are correctly fuelling as well? bit worrying that

I agree with all of the above. Honest John in the Telegraph recomends Shell and BP fuel for- it`s cleanburning he say in tests your engine would run smoother and stay cleaner internaly. I had an RS1150 and could feel it was running rougher on supermarket fuel.

My 08 GS runs fine on standard 95 ron I have not tried the 97 as it was stated that the engines could be damaged by it in the BMW owners club mag.
I will dig out some old copies to find out why?

I tried the higher RON fuels last year. For a 10% increase in price I got a 10% increase in fuel economy, approximately. So if I was planning on riding the 220 miles to my father I'd put 98 RON in, cos then I knew I could do it on one go without refueling.

Other than that, it's all bluster. I'll never own the bike long enough to have to worry about value guides wearing out etc. And it runs just fine and dandy on any grade of fuel I'll ever buy(like I'm ever going to be buying fuel out of a demi john from some person sat at he side of a road )

filled up here once,fella who owned it wasn`t called ron and it had a big red 78 on the tank,bike fired up knocked its nuts off when you first got going but ran fine after that, who cares

The super market fuels are shite,they buy their fuel offshore floating around for weeks at sea on tankers,and when the price is cheap enough they bring it in and pump to tanks,Tesco had a real problem a few years back when a ship they unloaded at vopak by the dartford crossing had previously been carrying silicone,seriously fcuked up a huge amount of vehicles,With Shell,BP,texaco,jet you're getting quality refined fuel,all of these fuels in the south are drawn from the petroplus refinery at coryton with their relervent additives,the Shell V power is made in germany and shipped to the UK..

A think you got it about right there, supermarket 98 ron is probably the same as branded sellers eg. shell, mobils 91 ron, its all a pointless exercise when all the companys rating are different.

When your in the middle of nowhere you have to be happy with whatever you can get eh Badger ?

To add to the confusion : testing of fuel octane level at servicestations usually shows actual octane level to be a bit lower than the one that's claimed. 95 being 94 or 93, and 98 being 97 or 96, for example. It's even worse in mediterranean or eastern european countries. So I'll stick with announced 98.
