Hi All hope you can help. Started the bike up this morning GSA 1200 a warning light came on and the fuel simble was flashing found this a bit strange as I put £31.00 in it last week and only covered about 150 miles. so went to the petrol station and put another £10.00 to be on the safe side. Warning light still on with the fuel simble still flashing. the clocks was saying I had a fuel range of 87 when I got home from filling it up it was showing 8. I covered about 10 miles. Can any one help. Not sure If this has caused a problem I fitted a after market can yesterday. The bike is booked in at Clarks on the 27/3/10 for a Fuel pump Module under a BMW recall. Once this is replace would this get over the problem? Thanks Mark

That'll be a symbol I think :)

Can't imagine the new can has anything to do with it. In fact I'd say impossible. If the battery is feeling a bit low, there's a chance the dash is simply upset. Mine recently played up with flashing lights and totally confused gear indicator. If yer symbol :) doesn't settle down after a long run, just forget it and fill up, ride 200 miles, then fill up again. Sorted. :thumb2

It sounds like your fuel level sensor is the problem. The computer shouldn't remain upset after you've stopped and started the engine. A new FPC won't make any difference. If it doesn't sort itself out tell Clarkes when you next take it in.

Bm don't use the conventional (and incredibly reliable..) float that all the japs use, they use some other system with an electronic strip that detects pressure and sends a signal to the canbus or some bollox like that. Any road up, this system has proved to be pretty unreliable (never!!!) and it sounds like yours has died. It will be warranty job, and they have to re-callibrate the tank or some such business.
The only reason why I know this is that the fuel gauge on my Job RT went last week, and I had a chat with the in house bike mechanic. Nothing he could do - its gone back to BM. :thumb

I have had the same problem with mine a 2007 gsa
had a new fuel strip sensor fitted and i have got the same problem back again
I am waiting to get it back in again was booked in last week but i have been stuck in work :(
keep us posted how you get on with it :thumb

I have a 2005 RT, if I am a bit keen with the pressure washer a correct fuel level is not given, sometimes for a while...

Hi I gave it a good wash last week and dried it off with a air compressor could that of blown a bit of water into sum thing?

Assuming you bike's still under warranty? I'd give the dealer a call incase they need to order any parts in :augie

mine too!

My GS/A had a fuel gauge problem too except mine said it had more fuel in it than it actually did(i ran out) took it in to my dealer and it was fixed under warranty...new electronic sensor strip fitted inside the tank...dealer told me its a known problem and he keeps one permanantley in stock as he's done a few!

Hi Bike went back in to Clarks on Friday to have the fuel level sensor replaced all working again (but for how long) I would like to say thanks to Chris at Clarks as I was only charged £67.00 labour for the repair and BMW provided the part was free. As the know they do have problems with the fuel level sensor even the new bikes still have this problem. :-)
