Hi All
Not sure if my low fuel warning light is working on my 1100GS 1999.
I have run it real low, down to one bar on the gauge and no light coming on.

Does the warning light come on when you first turn on the ignition as a test ?

Mine never comes on at all, is this is normal ?

Cheers

Nick.

My 1150 tends to vary- the light can come on with 3 bars, sometimes with 0 bars for ages. It sometimes also comes on when the bike is on the sidestand on my drive, but my drive does have a slope on it.

I would trust the light rather than the guage as I always check what fuel I have put in when I fill up. When the light comes on I put in around 17-18 litres so there is always a good 3 litres left. I have filled up before with 1 bar and only put in 14 litres- the tank is still 1/3 full.

Try leaving it on the side stand for a bit then turn it on. The light triggers on the flat with no bars showing and (IIRC) doesn't come on at ignition test. Alternatively, if you really must find out lay the bike gently on its side (no, really - it won't hurt it!) - be a good chance to practice picking it up again as well. Oh, and if its standard you will rehearse the famous 'get you home in a tight squeeze' method of sending residual fuel from one lobe to the other when you run out. Theres quite a bit left when you run dry on the flat.

Thanks for your help guys.

Now I know that the light has no self test function, I at least know that this is not a problem.

I am currently at 1 bar on the fuel gauge, will run a bit more and see what happens. Will miss on laying bike over though for now.

Think I will keep riding up and down the rd outside the petrol station.

They do vary a bit though.

My Kalahari 1100 warning light comes on just as the last bar finally disappears ( after the bar has gone off and come back on for a while )

The Red 1100 warning light comes on a good few miles after the last bar disappears.

The warning light will often come on with even a half full tank after being parked on an angle.

I`ve done 35 miles with the warning light on.....but was cacking me pants a bit.

Mine goes off just about the same time the last bar disappears and then I seem to have about 4 litres still in the tank. If you lean the bike to the right you can ride further so avoid left hand bends when you are low on fuel :D
